Defective Meta Quest 3, artifacts, glare right eye

Hello all,

On a trip to the USA, I bought a pair of Meta Quest 3. The right eye has noticeable diagonal lines in all text like if it was lacking anti-aliassing. That is the best way I can describe it. The text looks very smooth on the left eye, but it has these lines on the right.

In addition, artifacts and glare/clouds of different colors appear on the right eye. Sometimes, a quick power on/off, or a lock on/off, will get rid of them, but sometimes they stay on for a long while. After a while you kind of stop seeing them, but they are there.

Meta accepted a return, but I couldn't travel back to the US in time to do it, so I am stuck with this unit.

Is there any solution you can think of? I would think replacing the right eye screen would work, but is that guaranteed? Is there a reputable seller of parts where I could buy that? Is it an easy job to replace it?

Thanks!

  • The blue mesh in the last image is just your guardian boundary. However, the red hue, three thick dark lines, and purple/cloudy glare are certainly a bad defect in the LCD Assembly of the right eyepiece. You could try Fix my Oculus, but I think they might only accept units sent from within USA. You could maybe try contacting them anyway. On their store, the LCD Assembly for the Quest 3s appears to be "sold out". Maybe you could buy one online from somewhere else and attempt to replace it yourself or maybe a phone repairer might be willing to install it for you if you point them to some YouTube videos like the one I linked to.

Note: possibly you might only need to replace the LCD Screen Panel, if your lenses aren't damaged as well, but I couldn't find any videos on how to replace only the panel rather than the whole assembly.
