Does Meta regularly remove clothing from the inventory?

I have some friends that are constantly changing up their outfits but one of them found a shirt (it was free) last week that was super nice so he kept it. Two days ago, when he launched the game, he was wearing a plain black shirt and the one had had been wearing is gone from the store. How does this work? Do clothes expire? It's a real bummer if you find an article of clothing that you like and barely a week later it's removed from the available options and your closet.
