Failed to reach service out of ideas on how to fix.

Just yesterday, my Meta Quest Link app stopped working.

Takes forever to try and see if it works, offers the repair button, and it doesn't work at all.

I have tried repairing with the setup.exe file, which doesn't work, and manually deleting all files and reinstalling doesn't work either. Using the uninstall feature doesn't work, and I have tried all the methods I could find online, but none work. Restarting doesn't work either. tried the QWAVE trick and doesn't work and anything you can find on youtube or forums. Drivers everything.

And it's not a minimum requirement thing my PC is beefy.

I'm out of solutions, and I am not tech savvy enough to figure one out.

The one thing I have noticed while trying to troubleshoot is that the OVRServer_x64.exe process seems to be turning on and off constantly it never stays for longer than 4 seconds on the task manager so, that is my guess as to what the problem could be?

I tried opening the app on my laptop and it works just fine and that process does stay on permanently. It worked just fine 2 days ago, so I don't know what I could have done wrong to make it stop working or other things.

    Hello zodia.181630,

We’ve just seen your post about the issues you’re experiencing with the Meta Quest Link application, and we’d be more than happy to help get you up and running again.

This particular error on Windows is caused by the Oculus VR Runtime Service not running in the Microsoft Services console. You can resolve it by following the steps outlined below:

    • Ensure that the Windows local user account name does not contain special Unicode characters (For example: / \ [ ] : ; | = , + * ? < >)
    • Check and stop the Oculus VR Runtime Service
      • Open the Microsoft Services Console (start > search > services.msc)
      • Verify the Oculus VR Runtime Service status is not running (Right click - Stop)
      • Verify the Oculus VR Runtime Service Startup type is Automatic (no delayed start)
      • If the service startup type is not showing Automatic: Right click “Oculus VR Runtime Service,” Select “Properties,” change Startup Type to “Automatic”
      • Find and delete this folder:
        • C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Oculus\sessions
      • Delete the contents of these folders:
        • C:\Program Files (x86)\Oculus\Downloads
        • C:\Program Files (x86)\Oculus\tmp
      • Start the Oculus VR Runtime Service from services.msc

Hi, this is starting to look like an emerging bug, I’ve seen a few similar reports of the “can’t reach Link service” error.

  • It sounds like OVRServer_x64.exe constantly stopping is causing the Meta Quest Link failure. I’d suggest:

Run as Administrator – Right-click OVRServer_x64.exe and run as admin.

Check Antivirus/Firewall – Ensure it isn’t blocking Oculus services.

Clean Reinstall via Oculus Tool – Use the official Oculus uninstaller, delete leftover folders (C:\Program Files\Oculus and C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\Oculus), then reinstall.

Check Background Apps – Disable any apps that might conflict, like VPNs or network monitoring tools.

Update Windows & GPU Drivers – Sometimes the process crashes due to outdated drivers.

If it still doesn’t work, a support ticket to Meta might be needed—they can check logs for why the service keeps closing.
