Fans Running When Headset is Off

I recently purchased a Quest 3 (having owned one before just after release and don't remember having this issue).
I have automatic updates off and never put the headset to sleep, I always turn it off.
I've noticed a couple of times now on passing the headset, that I can hear the fan going full blast when the headset is off, black screen, and it takes a long press of the power button to stop the fan, which also turns on the device. If I had not done this, the battery will have probably completely drained (strap with battery was already at 0%).

Is this a known issue, or do I need to return the headset?

That's strange. I can see that if, after using the headset it gets warm and the fans stay on after you switch it off, but if it's switching on randomly that's strange. However I have heard that battery straps can cause this problem. Disconnect the battery strap for a while and se it if it still happens.

  • After the last few updates, I've noticed the fan sometimes runs while the headset is in sleep mode. Powering off the headset stops the fan. Restarting the headset sometimes fixes it, or at least, makes the fan blow more gently and stop after a few minutes. I have the ES/B connected, and also plugged in to the charger, so maybe the fan needs to run because charging produces heat. I don't think the fan should be on if your headset is powered off, though.
