Floor level too high - cannot reset

The floor level and room scanning used to work fine.  Not sure if the latest OS update v79 (system says it's the latest, and cannot update to 81) broke something.  I erased all history and tried to set floor level, which is too high even with the lowest setting using controller stick.  I also tried placing the controller on the floor and the "drawn" controller just appears above the floor disconnected from the physical controller lying on the floor.

I don't know if this is related to trying to redraw room boundaries, as trying to redraw the boundaries is completely off now.  It used to work very well.

Is something broken with the software, or has my unit gone defective?

  • Is it happening with every game or just some. When I was playing 7th Guest, I often ended up on the ceiling instead of the floor and had to reset my boundaries and then the next time I'd be lying on the floor looking up!  Lol. Make sure your room has enough light and avoid strong LED lighting as I read on some posts that Iit can confuse the sensors. If it keeps happening try a factory reset, it often solves issues like this but if not contact support. If you do a factory reset just make sure to go to your cloud storage in the headset and backup your games/progress. Good luck!

It's not within a game.  I am trying to set floor level with the headset as a primary setup.

Everything worked before, which is why I am wondering if there is an issue with the OS version I am on (v79).  There is nothing wrong with the lighting, as I have set up the floor level in the past in the exact same room.

It's possible that this is a bug. If you could please report it by clicking here, we'd be so grateful! It helps the Meta development team improve the user experience for all of us, which is great! Your reports are so helpful!

Now, we've got some suggestions for you that might just fix this problem:

        • Please make sure that tracking is switched on. By default, the headset will use 6DoF tracking, unless it has been turned off in the Guardian settings panel or lost tracking while in VR.
        • Then, clear your boundary history (Remember that if you have more than one account on the same headset, boundary history will be cleared for all accounts, not just the account you are currently using)
        • And finally reboot the headset.

We always suggest that you remove any third-party accessories that are not supported. These can affect tracking or pairing, for example controller covers or attachments.

If the problem persists, we would like to encourage you to reach out to us privately so that we can investigate further. Please select our name to get to our profile page, or click here. Next, click "Send a Message" to privately message us! Please remember, you must be signed into the community first to send us a private message. We'd love to assist and guide you further and hope to hear from you soon!

There is another user having trouble with the floor level. He is also not able to adjust it, but his floor is to low.

I guess, if it is a software issue, many more people were affected and the forum would be flooded with posts about that - like it is about the cable link issue after the latest update.

    You should contact support.

I wonder if it's possibly a faulty camera? Just FYI Choleni steve_40 I just got a new update. Still v81.1034 but a new build number. I haven't noticed anything different as yet. Probably just a stability update.

Hmm... maybe it's a bit illogical that the camera fails at the exact moment the headset receives an update?🤔

But it is strange that some users have this problem and others don't.
You would think that the bug affects everyone.

By the way, I received version 81 in the Q3 today... no problems so far😁

  • Have you tried using the thumbstick on the controller to move the floor up and down - you can do that also.

steve_40  seems not working in this case🤷‍♀️...... he said that he already used the controller stick.

Yes, I did see that, but it's not clear to me if he meant the thumbstick or whether he was calling the whole controller a "stick" 🤷‍♂️.

  • This is a problem I've reported the appears to come and go with updates since around v76 on my Quest 2.

I've reported it numerous times both on the boards here and the through the bug report  in the headset.

Sometimes you can fix it by turning off laying down mode.

Sometimes you can fix it by adjusting the height in accessibility settings.

Sometimes you can fix it by resetting the floor level - until you go into an Immersive App.

Most of the time you are just screwed until an update comes along that fixes the problem - until the next update.

You know something is wrong when you lower the controllers and they go through the "floor".
