Gender Change

Hey is there anyway to change the gender of your oculus home avatar person as my partner was messing around on my vr before i had a chance to set up my profile and made it a female and now i cannot find a way to change it to male

    There is no specific gender assigned to Oculus avatars. There are some body types that look more feminine or masculine, and there are some facial features and details that can be considered traditional gender indicators, like eyes with heavier lashes, redder lips, and facial hair.

    Same i tried editing on all areas as well but all i can do is change the appearance like hair and clothes but not gender, i have put in a support enquiry to oculus and have had a reply but didn't help so i sent them more information back so hopefully something will come of it and if so i will also let you know.

      Did you ever find a fix to this?? I accidentally picked a female that I thought was a male and all her clothes are feminine…..

        How do you change gender after it has been set?  Try setting it once, then changing it.

      No real issue they keep telling me there is no gender their is just different body types and so forth but 1 it asked my sex and 2 the pose my avatar makes is very feminine or very gay in a stereotypical way

        I was thinking the same thing as you.  The male avatars look very female.  Even with beards and short hair.  They just look like a lady with short hair and a beard.  You can change the clothes and that helps a bit but yeah... This is the main reason I don't play Horizon... I just don't like the avatars. They are way too feminine.  Pixar doesn't have this problem so I'm not entirely sure why Oculus can't seem to make guy avatars look like guys.  I suspect their art department has some sort of PC agenda.

      Then why do you ask if I’m a male or female. I understand you’re creating a virtual world but we live in the real world.

    Google it. You’ll find plenty of articles talking about the fact that there are no assigned genders in the Oculus avatar system. Some people feel that the avatars are not manly enough, but that’s how they are.

     

    Here’s a screencap of a search; you can see one article from this year about the newest avatar system, and another from the old system 5 years ago, both mentioning that there are no specific genders for avatars. There never have been in the three different avatar systems we’ve had.

    Hi! I know all the avatars are supposed to be gender neutral, but after wrongly selecting a face-type i'm only presented with woman clothes, such as some sort of bikini outfit and classic female-oriented clothing.

    I'm all in favor of breaking gender roles and using whatever's more confortable for anyone, but just for the sake of simplicity wouldn't it be easier if i can choose what gender i want for my own avatar?

     

    if that's not possible (for whatever reason), maybe a simple RESET AVATAR button to start from scratch? I want to show Workspaces in my work environment to do a test run and get my bosses to adapt to VR, but it's going to be pretty hard doing that looking nothing like my assiged (and preferred) gender.

     

    Please help me fix this, i really want to convince my work of buying 10's of this headsets

      Seems that Oculus is going the politically  correct route. I had same issue. You just have to adjust the avatar to modify different characteristics, it's all about adjusting, there is NO setting to create a base or specific generic selection.  

       

      BTW The setting in Oculus are HORRIFIC! It's more ABOUT SELLING, SELLING, than finding your purchased items, or finding things easy to navigate. It should be SIMPLE and to the point, not cluttered.  Very POORLY done.

        Thanks for the reply. In that case, do you know where the chest settings are? my avatar has some pretty big breasts (which as a fat dude i technically have) that i want to get rid of

      Yeah i'm gonna keep tagging MetaStoreHelp  daily until we get an official reply on how to do this. or at the very least, how to decrease the chest area so i don't look like a woman when i identify as a man

    I've merged the change gender thread with the gender change thread.

     

    Can forum member please consider that no single issue is more important than any other forum poster's issue. Contrary to what you may think, creating multiple threads or bumping threads doesn't elevate an issue, similar to creating multiple support tickets for a single issue doesn't elevate the problem but is does slow down the help process for everyone.

     

    As per support's comment, there is a UserVoice process whereby changes or additions are voted on by users. It's important that people visit that site. Each user has a single vote on each issue, that way Oculus can properly judge how important an issue is to people and therefore what to prioritise, rather than basing it on the number of posts or tags an individual posts here.

     

    This is a community led forum, please remember the forum rules and try and post so that the community as a whole benefits. All problems are equally important here.

      Hi DaftnDirect , thanks for trying to clarify how the support process works here at oculus.

       

      Unfortunately, it looks like UserVoice isn't used anymore, and all the "issues" that were uploaded there were transferred to the "Ideas" section on this same community forum.

      As you might have noticed, we don't think Gendered avatars are a "new idea", we actually think it's an issue, which we're reporting as an incident, not as a new feature request, since the avatar that's currently representing me has breasts (not very gender-neutral).

       

      I know you're not an oculus employee and that you're doing all you can do to help us, but is there any other way or channels to reach out to someone who has the internal power to escalate this? You've said it yourself, this has been an issue for years, and clearly no decision-maker has heard of it.

        LocoLukee absolutely you're right, it's been a little while since I voted on UserVoice and it's now the Ideas section.

         

        I'd remind members though that the same principal applies, this forum only works well when people consider everyone here.

         

        What we don't want is everyone bumping their own threads, competing with each other, intentionally or incidentally supressing other topics. It's not good forum etiquette and against the rules.

    Ive ran into the exact same problem unfortunately. I found the option to update my gender, but it doesnt save. Im forever stuck as my female parter I guess. Lmao.

      I also ran into this problem. I think the most annoying thing is Moderators and Oculus reps seem to ignore everyone. It's a very simple request, have more feminine and masculine body types to choose from.

        I think you mis-understand the function of moderators.

        Moderators are here to ensure that the forum continues to operate well for everyone, in this case that means that no single issue that anyone has with software takes precedence over anyone else's issue.

         

        I intervened here because if everyone advocated bumping the thread relating to their own issue each day (which is what one member said they'd do), because they thought their request for change wasn't happening, then the forum would stop functioning completely.... for everyone including you.

         

        Moderators aren't here to solve software problems although if we know how to help people, or answer questions, we'll do that too.
