Group chat on child account (10-12l

Son, setup on a child account, is trying to join group chat with his mates but he's unable to. Is there a restriction on child accounts? His mates are on there but maybe they're playing on adult accounts. Even when I look to set up a group chat I can't see how to do it.

Any help would be appreciated
