Have I been scammed

Bought a meta quest 3s for my daughter, the quest was brand new sealed in the box and had never been used, during set up today, I am seeing it try to do a software update, reboot and the loop the process, I have tried a hard reset, I have tried a different network, and I have tried side loading the software, it says my device is not compatible, i have tried to raise a ticket to support and it says the form is not available in my region, UK, also when entering the Serial it says my device is not supporting, does anybody have a fix please or can link me to support.

i did not buy this from the meta store, I bought this private so it is not linked to my meta account as I also have the quest 2

  • If you did not buy it from an authorised retailer, and bought it from a private seller/person, and it did not say it had regional restrictions, it does appear likely that it was a scam.

    We require more information, such as did you purchase this with cash, debit, paypal or a credit card?  Was it a website with protections or in person?

    As for the support, Meta could in theory make a gesture of good will for an exchange, but this is something I would consider a last resort, while you have the other options at the table.

    I mean it does not say that the device is disabled, it just seems to be in endless loop of updating and rebooting, then says it has no internet connection, I have tried two different networks with the same results, as I say I have tried side loading a software update and when plugged in it shows the meta quest in devices but then says it is not supported, there are forums of people having this same issue in the masses but no solution, further more due to this being first time set up I have not been able to sign in meaning it is not linked to my meta account, I have contacted the seller and waiting for response but this seems like an equipment error as I say it was sealed brand new

    You must put in the serial number from the box, not from the headset itself.

    I guess, it's not yet linked to your account because it hasn't been set up, not because you purchased it privately. A quest purchased directly from Meta also isn't automatically linked to your account.

    However, buying from a private seller instead of an authorized retailer always carries a risk.

    You should talk to support to see what they can do.
