Have to "repair" the Link software every time...

The Quest Link app for Windows has been horribly broken for a few weeks now. There's a 50% chance I'll need to use the setup program and hit "repair" after every use, as it frequently freezes upon startup.

If I get lucky and it does work, I will have to fully reboot the Quest 3 afterwards, as otherwise, after closing the Link software, my hands will never reappear and I have no way to use navigate the Quest menus (I don't use controllers with the headset, just hands - and all hand tracking dies after using Quest Link for Windows until after a hard reboot of the Quest 3).

This never used to happen prior to a recent update, so I really hope things get back to normal soon.

    First of all, please ensure that your headset is fully updated and that your PC's drivers are fully up to date as each update will include new fixes which may be able to help.

      This is not an isolated incident. This  is a problem with everyone. I have to repair the app every time I restart my computer. There is absolutely no reason this should be happening other than bad software issues

      Same issue here. Everything is up to date. Everything was fine until most recent update to Quest Link App.

      I'm having the same issue I can link to my computer right after i download oculus link app for the first time i do get desk top access. When i log off I have to reinstall the link app to get access to my computer again. I was just wondering if you have found a fix for this issue. because the second time i try to link it stays in the meta icon window with the three dots, it does not allow me to call up any apps or computer my desktop. I got the VR headset to play games on my PC not as a standalone unit. would like a response or a fix in the near future please it is exhausting having to redownload the app every time I start the headset

    I don't use hand tracking.  I just don't like it.  I believe that to enable hand tracking for PCVR on Meta Quest, you'll need to use a software like Steam Link and SteamVR, and ensure they are both running in the beta channel. Additionally, you'll need to enable hand and body tracking in the Quest headset settings.  Sorry but I'm not sure if this addresses your issue.

    Yes I confirm the same issue.

    Quest Link doesn't work. Reinstall the Quest Link software on PC, and it then works, but only until the next reboot of the PC, then its back to completely non functional.

    I am having the same problem with quest PC link, sometimes it works, but once I reboot pc I go into the same cycle, in headset it says its connected, I click on connect and it goes into a screen on headset of a colour field with meta logo and the three dots. it stays in same state for a while then changes to a black screen with meta logo before I eventually have to quit. It then goes back to my homescreen and I have to try all over again. I have checked my cable and that is fine, I have reinstalled link software on my pc, and I have even factory reset my headset, still no difference. THIS WAS WORKING FINE up until a week or so ago - What has changed?!?

    I managed to resolve problem with the service. Go to services and restart Oculus VR runtime services

      I've heard that adjusting the oculus runtime services to auto slow startup seems to help.  Google how to do this.

      I don't have any issues with Link or Air Link right now with my Q2/3/Pro all on non-ptc v76 (including the meta-link pc app).  However, I use the Oculus Tray Tool (OTT) which has a feature to turn on/off this service when I start/stop OTT.  I use this because I also use a Vive Pro1 and find it works better if I turn it off before firing it up.

      OTT is no longer supported so unless you know what you're doing, I don't recommend using it.  I've been using it for +6yrs so I'm pretty handy with it.  Also, there are bat files out there that turn on/off these services.  Just do a little googling to find these.

        Thanks for this - using the "Automatic (Delayed Start)" setting for Oculus VR Runtime services appears to solve the issue for me.

        Now my only issue is that when using hand-tracking (my go-to, as why turn on the Quest controllers if I'm going to simply use a gamepad for UEVR, etc?), after exiting the Quest Link software, my hands are gone and my only option is to hard reboot the headset by holding down the power button.

        Never used to happen, but updates over the last several months have really wreaked havoc...

      What do you mean by services?  Services where? in the link app? Metas website? please be more descriptive

    Aaand now that solution stopped working also. Still having to restart/repair. This wasn't a problem several months back. It's just sad how broken the Quest 3 is when trying to use it with Windows.

    Until Meta (hopefully) fixes this issue, I temporarily ‘solve’ it by going into services on my pc and stopping and restarting the Oculus VR Runtime services. I find it then links ok for that session using link. Or sometimes stopping and starting the headset also works. I’m still on quest 2 at the moment, and it was working fine up until the last meta update - grrr!

      Same issue, using my quest with my PC is just broken now. Seems like every time I try to use my quests there's some new annoying bug going on with it. At this point I'm of the belief that meta is a terrible company with crappy software. I can not wait until there is actually a viable headset as a replacement that still features XR and is not made by facebook.

    I have the same issue: PC cannot be found. I have removed/reinstalled the Meta Link software, and factory-resetted my brand new Quest 3, multiple times. It is beginning to ruin my evenings. Last night it did not even solve the issue, I will have to try to fix it again tonight.

     

    Perhaps it is not enough to boot into safe mode, remove all quest folders etc.  Maybe we also need to reinstall windows 😉

     

    Ironically enough, the generic advise, updating software etc, might be the cause. I have updated drivers, software, firmware, but I suppose it is smarter to wait until others have tested the update.

     

    PS: The link software has always been solid with my Oculus Rift. I have my Quest 3 since the 23rd of April, the first week the software seemed fine.
