Hide hands/controllers while viewing videos

Hello!

Is there some way to hide the controllers or hands while watching videos with the oculus browser?

If I turn on hand tracking I can hide the controllers but it still estimates my hands on the screen.

If I try to hide the controllers it randomly pops them up in middle of my viewpoint.

I would just like to view the video without anyhting else showing up.

Hey bumbasaur! We understand how important it is for our customers to be able to have the best VR experience possible. We see you are having an issue with your hands randomly popping up after you hide the controllers while watching videos in the browser. Currently, the only options available are to hide the controllers or to disable hand tracking by following these steps:

        • Select Settings in the top-right corner.
        • Select Device from the left menu, then select Hands and Controllers.
        • Select the toggle next to Hand Tracking to turn it on or off.

If this still does not resolve the issue, you may want to post the suggestion in the ideas forum here. We take customer feedback very seriously, and we use this forum to see what changes we can make in future versions that will benefit and enhance your VR experience.

  • This is really buggy, Watching any video has my hands interrupting. Unless you always keep your hands at your side, everyone is affected.

  • This is hilarious.

I encountered this completely broken design a year ago when testing 3D video in Quest. I charged the thing up, today and the problem persists which is a shame because the Youtube app looks pretty cool now. Reading this thread explains the problem. It's like talking to a brick wall. Automated responses to questions that were not even asked.

Bumbasaur your post is a beautiful example of how broken this is. I too have attempted hiding controllers under blankets even after globally disabling hand tracking.

The good news is you can stop fighting the system since this won't get fixed because nobody cares at all about fit and finish.

    Sad.

  • Still an issue, still not fixed. You can disable hand tracking globally, but visiting a website with VR elements will ask to “allow body and hand tracking for an immersive experience.” The only way to use that site in vr, is to allow hand tracking. Alternatively, using link cable or air link, a site will ask to allow body tracking and separately ask to allow hand tracking. As long as you select “allow” to body tracking, you can select “no” to hand tracking. Sadly, this isn’t native to the headset, and only via the cable with a site being viewed from a pc. It’s supremely annoying at times.

We're developing both immersive (pass-through) AR and VR deliverables. The AR is meant to be as realistic as possible, so, no controllers. The VR requires controllers. Therefore, we need to be able to prevent controllers from interfering with hand controls and vice-versa. The current implementation (firmware 71) is hideous. My recommendation is to add a physical switch to each controller to ensure its off, not broadcasting, and not consuming battery power.

BTW, a "work around" is to tap the two controllers together twice. This shuts them "off" but they often just come back on - it takes several tries.
