how to setup quest 2 without controllers

so far ...

bought used quest 2 on ebay, no controllers.

connected quest 2 to pc via link cable. meta quest link has connected to quest 2

connected quest 2 to samsung a8  via meta horizon app.

connected quest 2 to wifi. quest 2 is now updated.

objective.

i want to test the quest 2 with f1 2025, msfs 2024, and star citizen. no need for quest controllers yet.

successful testing will lead to purchase of a new quest 3.

issues.

how do i get past the " pairing controller prompt" @ quest 2 headset?

please advise

  • jodyyhiiirolla  is absolutely correct, you need controllers to get the quest 2 to rock and roll.

i bought another quest 2 with controllers and all is sweetness in vr land.

f1 2016 and msfs 2020 are amazing in the headset. using the cable link and monitor mirroring.

do not waste your time trying to get the headset to work without controllers. it might have worked once but not now. march 2024, signing off.

Ensure the phone is connected to the app, then go into the phone app and launch the browser. A browser window will open up in the headset. Select 'manage settings. in the browser and this will take you to the main settings menu, where you can connect the headset to the PC and play PCVR titles. If you close the browser or settings window, you'll have to restart the headset and launch the browser again.

Sorry but I'm having the same problem, and I can't seem to find the place or way to launch the browser from the meta app. I already tried sharing a link, i even downloaded a version from 2 years ago. Nothing... I tried getting developer options but all I get is "we are having groubles loading this"

AMEXJOE   have the headset active and have it showing in the mobile app that it's connected. Navigate to your Quest apps on the phone and select the browser and launch it from the phone. The browser window should then appear in the headset.

I need adb for that and I get a "we are having groubles loading this" error when i try to use the app to enable developer options

ok, so the "install on headset" button for the mixed reality browser app appears to do nothing.

i connected the headset to the pc via cable link and that caused the phone browser app to change from install on the pc to install on the headset. (looks like that was an important step ... )

skyfox_9000  yeah, I still get that message but keep trying to turn it on, and eventually it seems to stay on if you go back to another screen and back to developer screen.

AMEXJOE  open the mobile app, go to devices, select your headset and tap to connect, select  'Headset Settings'  then 'Developer Mode' and toggle the slider.

yes, i found developer mode.  here is what i get. " to enable developer mode, join or create an organization."

so, i got started and got verified, now meta wants me to create an organization.

i would much prefer to join an organization.

        please advise

  • Yall figure out an a fix for this yet? I recently inherited a quest 2 from a buddy but the controllers are completely dead. I don't need the controllers, as I only really want to use it to play flight and racing simulators like OP - which I use other devices to operate. Nothing in the thread seems to work.

Alexbond45  how far are you able to det down this list -

Install meta app on mobile device. Phone or tablet.

Factory reset the headset and start the setup process

In the mobile app link the headset to your account.

In the app, select your headset and go to 'Headset Settings'

In the headset settings, enable wifi and wait for the headset to connect to it.

In the app go to 'App Library' and install the browser

In the app library, launch the browser

In the headset, you should see the browser window, click on the 'manage setting' button

This should take you to the main settings window where you can further set the headset up including link/airlink

I get to app library but an unable to launch the browser. It just says "Install to Headset" and that's all.

  • Dang. I tried on a fresh account (since the other one seemed a bit wonky from being connected to my PC) and it just gives that blank purchase button. I'm reaching an impasse here, not sure why it's being so obtuse.
