i cannot follow my friend and my friend cant follow me

ive had him followed the day since i made my account and now i cant join calls with him in a group with him and he doesnt have me blocked and i cant follow him, he just got his meta quest 3 and we wanted to play some exclusive games and i cant call him, so i just unfollowed him and we thought that it would fix the problem but now we cant follow eachother.
