I have lost my old oculus account and want to retrieve it
I have had an oculus rift, the first generation I guess, it broke and now I have recently bought a meta quest 2 and I have had a lot of problems with logging into my meta-account, which I had to create due to Facebook/oculus log in doesn't work. After hours of doing research, restarting my computer, re-installing the oculus app and more, I managed to log in and now I can use my VR headset with the new account.
The problem: While using my VR headset, with the meta account, I went into the store and found that I had to purchase a game, that I already had from my other oculus, to play it. I presume that I got to link my old oculus account with my meta to be able to play my game without paying for it again. I can't log into my old oculus account, when I try the "forgot password" link, it doesn't work, it asks me to go to the meta link for "forgot password", which only lets me fix the problem with meta-accounts and not with actual oculus account. On top of that, I am unable to log into oculus in any way on my computer, I get a white screen, and was only able to log into my mobile. I am asking if I could get help, with finding my lost oculus account, I have the password and the email address, but meta, oculus or whatever it is, doesn't let me reach my lost account. I would also want to know if the oculus app on my computer can be fixed.
- Update: I have found a solution to the white screen problem. (Also known as the white screen of death). Also, note that this was a solution that worked for me, I have realized that the solution to the white screen varies from device to device. This is how I did it, for whoever stumbles on this post, I hope this works for you.The solution: I am now logged into oculus on my computer. What I did was download a specific oculus device, which I searched by typing "Oculus download", and went into the link that says "Oculus Rift setup".The link is https://www.oculus.com/rift/setup/I downloaded it as I normally would and if you already have another oculus app installed (like in my case), I chose to delete the previous one option and proceeded to continue the download. After the whole installation was complete, I made sure to clean my default browser (chrome in my case) from cookies/data-like stuff. After that, I restarted my computer, launched the newly installed oculus app, and chose to log in with Facebook, it brought me to my browser (to some meta/Facebook site) where I had to sign in with my FB account. After all that, I would normally get a white screen with no way to proceed or anything. But after doing precisely the steps as said above, I didn't get white-screened and was able to proceed. Now I have instead other problems with the linking between my meta quest 2 to the oculus app on my computer as well as steam. I also have some problems with graphics/ resolution, which are really really bad despite my computer being very capable (in other words, my computer is not at fault). This is so frustrating and I can only imagine other people experiencing similar complications. It really saddens me. Oculus, how it was before it got bought by Facebook was working smoothly and everything worked nicely. If a problem occurred, it could be solved in less than an hour, compared to now (no joke, took me literally about 15 hours to fix all this) and it should DEFINITELY not take so long. It really is a shame how this world is turning out to be (I may sound dramatic, but it really is how I feel about all this).I have marked this as the solution to this post but I give credit to Akemi_Kun who addressed the first problem I had. Akemi saved me a lot of time, and his/her help was much appreciated, thank you.
