In v83, "A" and "X" button disabled
In Horizon OS v83, the A/X buttons can no longer be used to confirm actions.
Since the introduction of the Oculus Touch controllers, the A/X buttons have always been the primary confirmation inputs. The trigger can also be used, but it has no click and its long travel makes it less suitable. The A/X buttons are simply more appropriate and intuitive.
The use of the trigger as a confirmation input was, as I understand it, a convention that came from the Vive and SteamVR ecosystem, where the Vive controller had a click-only trigger. In that context, it was reasonable and intuitive.
In Horizon OS up through v81, confirmation with A/X still worked, but it was disabled in v83. This change fails to take into account the physical characteristics of the Touch controllers and harms usability. And unless another meaningful function has been assigned to A/X, the buttons currently don’t seem to serve any purpose, making the intention behind this change unclear.
I hope this is either reverted so that A/X can once again be used for confirmation, or that Meta provides an explanation showing why the change was considered necessary.
Thank you.
