I recently installed the latest update offered when I went into settings, which gave me the latest UI, which was really nice. But now I've reset my Meta Quest (and changed accounts) and I'm stuck on version v79. It no longer offers me the option to update to version v80 or higher.
I don't understand why.

Thanks for reaching out with such an interesting issue. The most recent update is Version 79.1034 as of week of September 8, 2025 any later version is part of the PTC. Perhaps your previous account was signed up to the PTC and the one you logged in with after resetting your device is not. To check this follow this link and see if you need to sign up to PTC once again.

MetaStoreHelp I am on v79.1034 which I received and installed on 16th September. My Quest 3 headset was "up to date" after the installation. Strangely, after 27 September, my headset now says there is a "new" update, but it is also v79.1034 and the build number is exactly the same. What gives? Is this another botched update like the problems we had with v78 a few weeks ago? History seems to be repeating itself. I am refraining from installing this second v79.1034 update, as I have lost faith in the integrity of these intermediate software updates, and I will wait for the release of v81.
I got that too. Same build number around a week ago. Everything is working ok after I installed it the second time..didn't feel any different, maybe there was a small change that wasn't big enough for a new build number ?
Meta rolls out different software updates and features to different accounts in a staggered way that no one seems to be able to figure out. Even two different profiles on the same headset can have different features. Some people on v78 or v79 have Navigator, while others don't, for example. As you changed your account, your rolled-out features have also changed. It's luck of the draw 🤷♂️. v80 does not exist, btw, the next version will be v81 which is still in the PTC.
And here's the proof in the pudding; we are three in my household - Me, Wife and Child.
Wife has a MQ2.
Child has a MQ3
I have a MQ3.
Child got v81 a couple of days ago. Wife doesn't use hers that much, so when I tried to do an update (automatic updates were off because of the MQ2 blunder about a year ago) I was updated to v74 and then to v81.
My MQ3 is at v79 and refuses to acknowledge that there exists anyhing more recent - no matter what I do (apart from factory resetting which I won't do because lazy ass me doesn't want to install .5T of software all over again :) )
So yes, it's definitely account dependant.
Yeap. I'm on the same page here.. Both my Q2 and Q3 have the same v.79.1034, even being announced the latest v81 new features. This is really awkward. I'm from Brazil btw, wonder if in the US its stuck on this v79 too. 😓

The most recent public update is Version 79.1034 as of the week of September 8, 2025. Any later version, such as v81, is currently part of the Public Test Channel (PTC).

It's said pretty often already..... this is not a regional thing and your headsets don't stuck on that version.
I'm in Germany..... my PC app and my Quest 2 already received v81(much too early, it wasn't my turn yet😂), my Quest 3 is still on v79.
I expect to receive v81 in November on Q3...... 4 weeks after the roll out started. That's my normal turn.
The roll out to all users takes 4 - 5 weeks..... so no reason being concerned about not having it yet.
MetaStoreHelp v81 is not in beta channel anymore. The build version is rolling out since Oct. 6th
FWIW, all three of our MQs are at v81 now. My update came a couple of days after posting. So y'all are going to get it eventually - patience padawan :)
I got v81.1034 only 2 days ago (in Australia). Some of the advertised features are missing, like app "pinning" and being able to run 12 apps simultaneously (instead of just 3) 😒. But I got the new "Immersive Homes" and the new Horizon Central, and I can now download and use "Hyperscape Capture".
PS. the new Immersive home and Passthrough is randomly glitchy and requires restarting the headset every now and then to fix it 😒.

I was concerned because I had the same issue from steve_40 above, with v79.1034 already installed, and that small 145mb additional update, with the same number appeared. Today I made a sideload update on my Q2, but it added the v79 as the latest one. For sure the servers could already have the real latest v81 when forcing the update like this sideload procedure. And really wondering why the v80 didn't exist on this scenario.
My fear is have a bad update and brick my Quests, as I already saw some posts regarding this. So now I'm relaxed, just waiting for the v81 rollout for me. ^_^
