Latest Meta Update Breaks eye tracking and avatars for QUEST PRO headsets TEMP WORKAROUND/FIX

As title states, past month in the PTC there's been an update that breaks the quest pro's tracking nearly completely ( minus mouth) reverting fixes, and many had reported it to what I saw. However for w/e reason vs META attempting to fix its still been rolled out publicly.

Currently 100's on the VR discords are reporting the same. Does META have an ETA when a hotfix will come out since they've removed the ability for us to rollback updates which potentially could save issues like this. Headset is currently unusable for tracking, also Meta AVI's appear as gray figures and don't respond to facial methods. This is a public issue, please respond here if you also are reporting.

  • For those affected current workaround is the following:

    Fully uninstall Occulus software(meta link)

REBOOT ( important MUST reboot else it'll still reinstall 76)

Grab version 74 use this link https://www.meta.com/en-gb/help/quest/1517439565442928/?srsltid=AfmBOop6d1Oxx3TnFwwKpgpV5SyM6NSWeUcrdUkhJ00RuCF6YEru3hb6

after reboot run the installer and validate you're back on version 74

    DISABLE Automatic updates for headset/app.

IF you're using VRCFT make sure to reinstall that too for safe measure

Currently the software update breaks facetracking, pupils do not move and eyes have a VERY long delay per capture, closing / opening delays a good 1-2 seconds before it xfers t the avatar.

    -----

FULLY UNINSTALL META BEFORE INSTALLING THE ABOVE TO ENSURE IT GETS THE RIGHT VERSION

    PLEASE MARK THIS AS CRITICAL

I can confirm this works; I can't thank you enough. I've been searching for a solution for weeks because it would just randomly start and stop working

I really hope they work on a fix fast

Glad to hear! As an extended precaution since Meta support seems to be keeping us in the dark on this.

I'd recommend adding the  Meta update service to your firewall and deny it for outbound internet access.

Based on which you're using you can google what to block, but for now vs having to do this every time you restart. Until they put out a fix or actual response to the matter.

Hey. Somehow this did not work on my end and it still installs version 76 since it just downloads that by default. I'm losing my mind over here since yeah i use VRCFT and that delay...oh boy. Any additional help would be welcome, thanks!

Been working with others on this, mainly ensure you're fully removing the software and REBOOTING first, cuz if you don't it will just reinstall v76, rebooting clears the cache for it but in the event it doesn't try running driver cleaner or any tool to clear tmp/cache files.

Another possibility is you have fast boot enabled, you can check this by going to your power options and clicking on "change what power buttons do" to get to this screen. If you see fast boot checked disable it ( if you can't click the top link above (circled) to enable it) then disable.
