Link startup time on offline PC

I have a machine which is offline per company policy. Whenever I start my Meta Quest Link app, it takes ages (~5 minutes) to load. On other PCs, which are online, it only takes a few seconds to load.

Any ideas what causes this? Are these timeouts which cause those extreme load times? Could we change any firewall rules (except for full internet access) to prevent this from happening?

  • I just sent a message. I am looking forward to a reply.

  • I have the same issue.
    It's a shame.
    A shame.

How is it possible that a company like Meta with virtually unlimited funds cannot ship a desktop application that can properly negociate its own network access ?

It seems the PC Link app ASSUMES you have an internet connection as far there is a valid network adapter, no matter if the app is able to reach the outside world. What might work would be to actually DISABLE the network adapter(s) of your machine before starting the PC Link app, then re-enable it.

Just a wild guess, but I confirm the issue.

  • The issue still persists on version 78.0.0.988.310 (78.0.0.988.310).
I have contacted Meta support, and after tedious troubleshooting, they admitted it's a bug in the app and recommended to submit a bug report with the instructions below:

"At this time, you can only submit a bug report through the Meta Horizon App, or within Standalone Mode on your Meta Quest Headset. This can be done on the app by following these steps:

On your phone, open the Meta Horizon app.

TapMenu at the top of your Horizon Feed.

Scroll down to Support, then tap Report an issue.

Tap Report a problem, then type an explanation where prompted.

Tap Send in the top right.

Alternatively, you can submit a bug report on the headset, by following these steps:

PressMeta button/Oculus button on your right Touch controller to open the Navigator.

    On the right, selectQuick controls.

    SelectReport problem.

Select Include or Don't include to add complete logs and diagnostics.

Follow the instructions to submit your report."

Thank you! I have reported it in several places. I did not know you could also report it in the phone app!

Still no updates on this matter?

The issue continues to persist on version 79.0.0.1143.381.

  • I am happy to report that for me on version 81.0.0.930.254, the issue is now pretty much fixed.

When the PC is online, the PC app startup time is ~21 seconds.
When the PC is offline, the startup time is now back to ~30 seconds instead of what used to be several minutes.

And it only took 11 months to fix the problem 😒.

      I’ve solved it too.
I was supposed to fix it by next month, so that’s a relief.
If the problem had continued into next year, I probably would’ve jumped into the river.
