Lock page pattern

My oculus recently suggested for security to set a pattern. I set a pattern with the dots, and then it locked me out. And will not let me back in, because pattern on security screen of dots is different than pattern that I set up pattern on the screen it had me set pattern on looks like a regular telephone dots. The sign in screen.I went to does not look like that.I am locked out now

Specifically, which headset model do you mean? "my oculus" is meaningless.

You're supposed to draw the pattern again on the grid to unlock the headset (the linked video is 2 years old, so the phone app will be a bit different now). Even if the grid shown is a bit different, you should just need to draw the same pattern shape.

My Quest 3 only has an option to set a passcode, not draw a pattern. Is it possible your phone app or headset software is very out of date?

If you still can't figure it out, you might be able to reset the pattern from the Meta Horizon app on your mobile phone. You can see in the video there is a "reset pattern" option.

Otherwise, the only way to get back into the headset would be to do a Factory Reset and then set up your headset from scratch.

    1. Turn off your Oculus Quest.
    2. Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
    3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Factory Reset and press the power button.
    4. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

Yes, that's the only way to get rid of the pattern.... nothing in the phone app or on web page can help.

It's a bug.  I've got a Quest 3 on v83 ptc and was prompted to enter an unlock pattern for security reasons.  It prompted me with a 9 dot grid to create the pattern.  When trying to access the device it gives you an 8 dot hexagon with no center dot.  I did not use the center dot on the 9 dot grid and tried to enter the same pattern on the 8 dot hexagon and it does not work.

on Reddit, some people with dev mode enabled were able to use ADB and enter the unlock pattern as numbers.  When I tried I was asked to authorize the connection from within the headset, so it didn't work.

Customer support told me to factory reset, but I can see this continuing to happen to other people unless Meta fixes the error.

        Yes, seem so.

I'm on v81 non PTC and got a notification - which I ignored🙃 -  about setting a pattern, password for the security a few days ago.

Is it in v83 a popup that can't be skipped?

      Hi The.Almighty.Chub 🙂

You can wait if an update will give back the same grid that you used to create the pattern..... but who knows when this will be or if an update will even change the grid🤷‍♀️

Factory reset the only way to get rid of the pattern, so if you want an immediately solution......

So if you have dev mode enabled and have already authorized a connection between your PC and the headset, and that authorization is still valid, you can use ADB to send the unlock pattern as a set of numbers.  There's a thread on reddit about it.

If you're like me and don't have the device authorized, you pretty much have to factory reset.  Customer support told me to factory reset.  I don't think they're coming out with a fix.

That should be unacceptable to everyone. Meta created this issue, and they should be forced to fix it.

  • I had the same issue and eventually gave in and did the reset. Quest gave me a 3 by 3 (9 dot) pattern to set up the unlock code and the next time tried to sign in the pattern was a different  8 dot and pattern.  Makes me distrust Meta.

  • The same thing has happened to me. I've contacted Meta and they say I need to factory reset, which will cause me to lose all progress on all my games. How is that the only option? It's ridiculous. This is a Meta issue. They need to fix it. They need to ensure users see the actual grid pattern we were shown during setup. What really troubles me is I was offered this option last week, and this issue has been occurring for years?!?! Why in the world is the option still being offered to users?

      Hi carjones51 🙂

You don't have to worry about loosing your game progress. Many games are supporting cloud back up. You can just continue your games after  re-downloading them,

You can check your cloud back-ups here:

Not sure what you mean by that🤔

As far as I know the misaligned pattern occurred after the last update a few weeks ago...... not years ago.

You can beck up your games and lose no progress for the vast majority of them. The problem with the pattern is very recent due to a bug in an update I believe. Anyway, you can backup and factory reset safely.
