Meta Bricked my Quest 2

This is honestly unacceptable.

My Meta Quest 2 has been completely bricked by your latest update. Before the update, it worked perfectly. After the update, it is now a useless piece of hardware.

Let’s be clear! this was not caused by misuse, damage, or anything on my end. This was caused by software YOU pushed to the device.

I’ve gone through every troubleshooting step possible: factory reset, reboot, charging checks — nothing works. The device is dead because of your update.

What makes this worse is that it’s now conveniently “out of warranty,” yet the failure is directly tied to your software. That’s not acceptable. Customers should not be left with a bricked device because of a forced update they had no control over.

I’m also not the only one? there are multiple reports of the same issue happening to other users after this update. That points to a wider problem that Meta needs to take responsibility for.

Right now, I’m stuck with a device that your update has destroyed, and support has been no help.

So I’ll say it plainly....
I expect Meta to step up and replace or fix devices affected by this issue. Anything less is just ignoring a problem you created. This shows you don't really care about your customers who pay for the things you build.

I’ll be watching closely to see how this is handled.

It's understandable to be frustrated when a device stops working, but just a quick reminder that this is a community forum - other users here don't have access to Meta's internal tools, logs, or the ability to repair or replace hardware. We can only help based on the symptoms you provide.

Right now, there aren't any details about what the headset is actually doing (LED behavior, boot logo, charging indicators, recovery mode access, etc.), so it's hard for anyone to confirm whether this is a software issue, a hardware failure, or something else that just happened to occur after an update. Correlation alone doesn't tell us the cause.

If you want the community to help troubleshoot, it would be useful to describe the exact behavior of the headset when you try to power it on or charge it. Otherwise, the only path forward is through Meta Support, since they're the only ones who can investigate warranty options or escalate device‑level failures.

  • thankyou for reply Steve, I'm just very annoyed at the moment about the fact I have to replace a good working product that is now unusable after a update that should be safe.
To anyone following and can help:

I was playing with my quest 2 on Saturday just a simple game, then I was in settings and noticed an update. So updated, after complete I turned the headset on it flickered more than usual and I could see the main area with the main dashboard with games etc, flicking in and out. at this point it seamed to be falling in and out of tracking loss but no pop ups just constant loop. After googling I force restarted powered off on etc same issue. After a factory reset it booted to the first stage of setup, click the trigger, but again fell in and out of tracking screen falling to the ground almost and up again.

After trying to see how to back track the update without any success to find how to do it. Meta suggested to update via the website sideload.

I started this process but when downloading it would get to 2 - 3% and disconnect and fail? tried few times all failing at 2% .

All functions on the outside as lighting etc are all 100%, orange on charging, Green on full charge and purple on sideload.

Reason for the post was to see if anyone else has had this problem arise a I have seen a lot of noise about it happening over the last few months.

After multiple interactions with meta it was sorry you need to spend more money on a new or used one, for me the update they provided killed it as far as I can see.

Appreciate any help anyone can provide, but as I have stated I have tried all troubleshooting steps provided by Meta and what I have googled so far, my main concern is not being able to update via the site with it stopping at 2% and hopefully this is all i need to get through to get my quest 2 back online.

    Cheers

Ok. It's not possible to downgrade the OS. Maybe try the following ADB update method, rather than using Meta's update tool:

Simple All In One Guide To Get The Newest Quest Update Right Now!

If that doesn't work (in case it says you already have the latest version or something), maybe wait for the next software update to be released then try again using the ADB method or Meta's tool.

If that doesn't work, some users simply left their headsets sitting on charge and they suddenly started working after a few days; so maybe the update hadn't finished installing or something, who knows.

Last resort, instead of buying a new headset, maybe it's a failed sensor that can be repaired. You could try Fix my Oculus or search for a suitable headset repairer in your country.

  • So I tried 5 different versions ranging from 20's to 50's to 70's all didn't work still the same issue with tracking loss over and over.
