Meta gift card damaged

I purchased a gift card from Wallmart just now.  Went home to activate and the silver tape over the gift card code stuck to the paper and ripped off part of the code from the paper so now I can't read it.  Went back to Wallmart and they refused to exchange the card.  Now I am stuck here on this forum since I can't find anywhere where there is a number I can call to resolve this issue.  Can someone from Meta please respond to me directly before I contact my credit card to stop payment?

  • My issue was finally resolved!  Turned out that my email couldn't get through the Meta mail server via my PC but it did go through via mobile.  Once I was finally able to get the photo of my damaged card to the support team the funds were added to my wallet in just a few hours.  Hopefully Meta will look at the PC email issue (via the info I sent them).  All good now, thanks everyone :)

    That's not good. Walmart would obviously see that you can't read the code and should have replaced it without argument. Here is something to try. It's a long shot but if you shine a light, like the torch on your phone, through the back of the torn off piece, you might see the letters/numbers. It would be a mirror image showing backwards but maybe worth looking. I'd contact Meta support as Choleni says of that doesn't work. Probably won't but worth a try!

      Maccyb123​    From what I've heard, Walmart is known for not being very customer friendly when it comes to refund.🙁

      But then......actually, I could  use the code and then rip  off a bit from the paper, pretending I can't read it to get refunded. So maybe Walmarts reaction is understandable too.🤷‍♀️

      It's just an example Kumakato​ ....not saying, you did that.😅

      I hope you are lucky and Maccyb123​ suggestion works.....would be the fastest and easiest way.

       

  • I did PM MetaStoreHelp, thank you.  Per CA Civil Code 1778 "a retailer that sells a gift card shall provide a refund if the card is defective" so Wallmart is def responsible.  Also falls under CA Civil Code 1750 and others.  I got the generic return desk employee who is likely very overworked this time of year and blew me off instantly.  I may return to ask for the manager (yes, I'll be that guy) if MetaStoreHelp can't, well "help".  Otherwise I will stop payment on my credit card and possibly even return my new quest....will see how frustrated I get throughout this process.  Thx everyone! 

  • Meta support was unable to help me.  This because, of all things, an email error on their server.  I uploaded a photo of my damaged card via the horizon app and via the meta website.  Customer service told me they couldn't see either of these uploads (didn't have access) it and advised I email it to another area of support.  That area, and ALL OTHERS that I tried to email received a bounce back due to server mail delivery error.  I told CS this and they kept telling me to use another email, that the issue was on my end.  I told them all my email addresses are merely an alias of my master email so I have no other.  Also I ran the bounce back code through GPT and send them a detailed report highlighting how the issue was with their email server...I am from an apple domain and they thought it was spam.  After I explained all of this they simply said thanks for the information and again, to try using another email address...which I told them several times I DON"T HAVE another email address.  After that last exchange it's been silent on their end.  Truly poor customer support and amazed that one of the worlds largest tech companies can't receive the email I use every day...one that THEY email to me every time something posts on the server.  Crazy!

  • The situation with a damaged Meta gift card seems unfair to the buyer, as the code cannot be verified until the protective layer is removed. If the card was purchased new, it is logical to expect that it will be usable. In such cases, in my opinion, Meta support or the seller should offer a solution — for example, checking the balance by serial number or replacing the card.
