Meta Quest 2 - Can no longer set up a boundary

I used to be able to set up a boundary, but it will no longer let me do so.  Here's the process that I take, and the results:

  1. Power on the Meta Quest 2
  2. Go to Settings.  The tile for Boundaries shows the status as "Off"
  3. Choose Boundaries.  The current boundary is a stationary boundary (a circle on the floor)
  4. Choose to create a boundary
  5. Draw the boundary.  I am able to do this
  6. Confirm that the boundary is correct
  7. It takes me back to the Settings page.  When I look at the Boundaries tile, it still shows as off.  My boundary is still a stationary boundary.

I used to be able to draw a boundary in this room, but no longer can.  Has anyone seen this before and know what to do?  Thanks in advance for your help!

  • it will show You off if You are in a PASS THROUGH MODE ( so when You can see Your surroundings instead of virtual room ). When in actual virtual room it shows correct setted up value

  • Hi KenTremendous434 πŸ™‚

Tap the "Boundary" tile in the quick settings menu.

This will open a pop-up window where you can choose between stationary or roomscale boundary.

  • My Oculus 2 is having the same issue.  I have rebooted a dozen times.  I get to the main screen, go into settings and Boundary shows as 'Off'.  Clicking on it just freezes the controllers for a few seconds but doesn't go anywhere.  This started out of the blue the other day.  Nothing I do will allow me to set a boundary that sticks (neither room scale nor stationary). I have cleared the boundary history, that did not help except to get the pop-ups to set a new boundary, that didn't work to clear the issue.  Thoughts?

I assume you have a developer account, is that correct?

Regular users - like me - can't disable the boundary.

Have you tried if enabling/disableing the boundary in the dev settings and then restaring the headset makes any difference?

Are you able to set the boundary status to "on" by doing that?

Mike - I'd love if that were the case.. but I'm in the virtual room and it still won't let me set a boundary.. and says 'Off'.  I don't have a developer account, just a regular user.  It started a few days ago.. perhaps a recent update has a 'bug'?  I haven't done anything different than I have a 100 times before.  Same room, same spot, etc..

Strange and sad. I also have quest 2 and everything works fine. I assume You did went to settings -> general and checked for updates directly from the device? It says 77.10xxx ?

Also did You do the device reset from the settings menu or only via power button?

EDIT: I don't have developer account as well but, You can also try to do to settings -> privacy & safety -> device permission and clear the last option " clear physical space history ". After that restart the headset from the settings -> general -> power and see if that helps.

Are You sure You don't have "developer settings" option in device settings?

      Hi Mike:

Yes, that was my problem.  Once I changed from pass through mode to a virtual room, the boundary was there.  I'm fairly new (got this about a month ago second hand) so I'm still learning some of the more intricate stuff.  Thanks so much to everyone for your help!

  • Same issue here. I have a developer account and some other developer accounts we have in our organization have the same problem. It seems in the latest update available to my Quest 3 (v77.1027, Build 5097426.10680.520), whenever you swap to the stationary boundary you cannot swap back to roomscale. Factory Reset would probably solve the issue as long as you don't pick stationary again. And sideloading to a previous version might also work.
Do not know if there's any other solutions to this of a less cumbersome nature. Lots of our partners are having this issue from having accidentally pressed the stationary boundary button.
As a temporary improvement you can *slightly* increase the size of this boundary by changing the boundary size in the settings.

Having the same boundary issues as others in this thread. I did not make any changes in the settings. I have rebooted, cleared and re-established the boundaries using roomscale.  I'm still getting the stationary circle w/ passthrough. I do NOT want that! I want to have my room scale grid back ( when I get close to the boundary the roomscale grid shows in the virtual environment) How do I change back to that setting?

After you have drawn a boundary, go into QUICK SETTINGS and you can select either a stationary boundary or room-scale boundary from the boundary option there.

Thanks steve but unfortunately no matter how many times i set it up and go into quick settings it says off and when i click it again it makes me re do the whole boundry setup process. Its weird that it’s doing this out of know where when it worked fine before.
