Meta Quest 2 has no video but screen works just fine.

Meta Quest 2 when attempting to boot shows the logo and plays the sound but nothing shows on the screen when pressing the volume up and down buttons the audio volume slider pops up and will be adjusted in accordance to the button pressed also the user select screen pops up but when attempting to select continue the white dot for selecting will keep auto centering also the user select screen keeps disappearing and reappearing and floating inn from opposite sides of screen, I was only able to select the continue button once before recentering  when I did the screen was all black (not power off black but still on) occasionally the screen would play the meta sound and flash whit but then would return to all black. Also the controllers would blink white and vibrate. I attempted to side load a update when that did nothing I factory reset it but to no avail for the issue persisted just without the user select screen showing up. If anyone has any way to fix this please tell me because this headset has a lot of semimetal value to me for it was a gift from my mom who has just last Friday passed.

You should be able to use hand tracking and finger-pinching to select the user profile.

My Quest 3 just got the v83 software update yesterday. I have automatic updates disabled. I downloaded and installed the update. After rebooting, the screen went black for about 5 minutes after I selected my profile. Eventually, the headset booted back into the UI. I can imagine a lot of people freaking out during the rather long black screen, maybe thinking their headset has broken, when it is just processing the software update. Patience is the key, take off the headset and wait 10 minutes or so, then put it back on and see if it has finished booting up.

Another reason for the black screen could be a glitch in the proximity sensor. Make sure the sensor is clean and unobstructed. Remove any tape from it (if you had added tape to stop the screen from turning off).

  • This did not help me, but thank you the headset still did not work also the pinch and grabbing couldn't work because the screen never turned on no matter how long I gave it thank you for trying to help

  • Also it most likely is not a proximity sensor issue because I have never taped the sensor

      Hi CrestWiz777 🙂

the fact that you never taped the proximity sensor doesn't rule it out as an error......the sensor might be defective. But since you could at least see the user screen it's probably not your issue.

Possible is also a defective camera. Both can be replaced.

You have to search for a repair service like "Fix My Oculus" in your country.

      Just Google for it.

    Hey there CrestWiz777!

We hear that you're having issues with your Quest 2 headset only showing a black screen when trying to turn it on, we'd like to help with that!

To get this problem fixed, please try:

    • Removing any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect boot (such as external battery packs, accessories that plug into the USB-C port, etc.)
    • Hard Reboot the headset
      • Hold down the power button and volume down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound
      • If the boot-up sound is not heard:
        • Hold the power and volume (-) button down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
        • Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight "Boot Device" and press the power button.
        • Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.
