Meta Quest 2 is displaying 100% charged, but once powered on, drops down to below 10%

As the title says, I’ve been having a lot of issues with my Quest 2 power. Oftentimes, it will show as 100% charged, but then abruptly tell me low battery or just shut down entirely. I’ve done the basics, like change the charging cable, changed the power outlet, charged it for 2 hours, and even made sure my graphic settings were set to low so that it doesn’t drain and checked battery saver mode. It’s completely up to date, and even the external charging bank is the official Meta piece (elite strap and battery), but it’s still giving me issues. My headset gets treated well, never stored in high heat, always dry, and I even use the official case when taking it somewhere or putting up. What can I do?

The_weird_fern  Unsurprisingly, the meta firmware is causing issues with charging headsets. Keep the headset plugged in to the official charger and ensure that the headset is on the latest update. If a factory reset doesn't help, then it maybe that the battery is on the way out. The batteries can be replaced, and most decent phone repair shops should be able to carry out the work.

Well there might be fault there. 😁 Assuming it isn't another software glitch...

As you have started to do by substitution you need to try and trace it.

Is it getting charged properly? - it comes out of the wall, into a small switch mode supply, down the cable, into the usb connector, very likely then through a small chip monitoring the voltage and current which passes it to the the battery and also provides a signal to the led etc ... or alternatively you feed it by the power brick.

The most likely scenario's I think are - the connector has a fault - maybe a dry solder joint from handling/insertion, or the charge chip has a fault or the battery has an internal short.

Can you get something like this usb tester?

They are usually fairly cheap. You should be able to see if there is power going into the device or not when its connected and at the expected voltage and current. Possibly if you wiggle it a bit the current is interrupted? Remove the inputs after a while and it should read the battery voltage attained.

I am only a hobbiest electronics guy but this is what I would do to try to narrow it down.

Have you tried fully charging the headset and elite strap battery separately to see if it makes a difference?
