Meta Quest 3 flickering white pixels

Had my meta quest 3 for a few days been playing primarily asgard's wrath 2. I had noticed on occasion that I would see these random lines of white pixels flickering on loading screens and occasionally in dark scenes.. It didn't seem to do it that much.. Welp.. Downloaded Into the Radius today and in dark parts of the game it is constant white flicking pixels.. I've noticed others are having this issue. And I saw where and admin said others need to make their own threads about this.. I'm affected by it too! It sucks. Really enjoying vr.. But this is totally immersion breaking and needs to be fixed.. I'm debating sending back my headset.. Is this really thay wide spread of an issue??

I get a strong white flash when the head set is starting up while looking at the meta logo. Really unpleasant when it happens. Assuming it's a software issue?

Since update I haven't gotten any , so I think its mostly a software issue. once I updated to the latest I haven't seen it or maybe I just got use to it , But they did say they are aware of it and are looking into fixing it . It has nothing to do with hardware . So you are ok ;D

It was gone, but it came back with V72, however, not as bad for me.

I have had my quest 3 4 days now, brand new. I am experiancing white flashing when headset it booting. Havent noticed it in any apps. The only thing I've done is install a few apps from the store and used Link tonplay games from my computer. I have kept it in an an area where sunlight cant reach it and i have kept it charged and unplugged when fully charged when not in use. From what i have read it sounds like a software issue. Seem to have Link disconnect issues, not able to join meta worlds, and room layouts disappearing.

Was there a solution to this issue? I see likely only AI is responding and solution nowhere. I also see this has been going on since quest 2. Can we get somebody on it?

  • Got the exact same problem. Shimmering lines even in home environment without anything plugged in.

  • I am on v76 and have these issues. As a lot of people start to get this, I bet it’s a software issue, so Meta should be an easy fix.

  • found temporary fix. You have to install sidequest and there is a setting for texture resolution. If you set it to the highest it fixes the flickering. Not sure what affect it has on performance when you use it standalone. I use it for PCVR so I can't see any impact other than crystal clear picture without that bloody white dots flickering and horrible aliasing.

  • I have the same flickering issue of white dots or line of dots that appear and gone in a millisecond on my Meta Quest 3 that I purchased about 2 months ago. It was not this much at first but It became severe after updating my device to v81. It mostly appears in first 15minutes of using the device.

To see flickering white dots, try these in a fully dark environment: (look at dark areas all the time)

    1. Turn the device on and look at dark areas carefully while the device is booting.
    2. turn on your right controller, and after device is booted, enter pin and move your head up and look at the ceiling, then press and hold meta button to reposition the boundary  message while looking at black areas. You will see dots flashing once right before the screen is repositioned.
    3. you must be on pass-through mode while yourroom light is off. Open a browser and 2 other apps and try to open 10 tabs in browser and continue browsing. You will see dots in dark area while using the device, especially when moving your head suddenly.

Its hard to take a screenshot of this issue (its like taking a screenshot of 1 specific frame of a 30fps video) but I will try to record it and send you the frame showing dots if you send me a private link.

I just tried it on mine after the V81 update. I got two updates to v81.1034, two different builds. I never noticed anything the first time but you made me curious so I tried your method and nothing. No white dots or pixels etc. I tried it when the device was cool and after a couple of hours play I restarted it to see if it happens when the headset is warmer and again I can't replicate the issue. Might a factory reset fix it for you? It's annoying to have your experience affected by it.

Hi, this is how it looks, but it's much more. I captured it using the "cast to phone" option and recorded it. I could also send you the video I took this screenshot from, but it's just a flash of these dots that come and disappear so fast.

  • I keep getting white flickering horizontal lines after a few minutes using the link to pc. USB checker says cable is good. It works great for about 5 minutes usually, but I noticed edge of nowhere would start the lines and flickering in the dark but then go away sometimes when I get back outside? Selective suspend is off. Power setting high (was low tried both)

Is my unit defective? Is this software related?

      Hi there robbie321.2025,

We want you to have the best possible PCVR experience possible, but you are currently experiencing a display issue with your Meta Quest 3 headset. We appreciate all the information you have provided, but please follow these troubleshooting steps:

      • Ensure your PC meets the minimum system requirements for Meta Quest Link.
      • Make sure that the headset and primary monitor are connected to the same video card.
      • If an adapter or cable extender is being used, then please remove this. If it is required, it is recommended to use the adapter with the monitor.
      • Disconnect the headset cable from the PC and from the headset and inspect it for bent pins, frays, twists, kinks.
      • Update your graphics drivers by visiting the NVIDIA website or the AMD website

If the issue persists after having followed these steps, then please send us a private message. To do so, please select our name to get to our profile page, or click here. Next, click "Send a Message" to privately message us! Please remember, you must be signed into the community first to send us a private message.

We look forward to hearing from you, as we want you to have the best time with PCVR!

robbie321.2025  Artifacts seen while using PCVR would be a graphics card issue, not the headset, since the card would be doing all the rendering. Use the Oculus Debug Tool (it's in your Oculus folder on your PC) and disable Sliced Encoding. The white line issue (and solution) especially applies to AMD cards.
