Meta Quest 3 Headset Won't Power on

Meta Quest 3 Oculus headset Won't Power on.  Have tried holding power button for over one minute, will not turn on.  Have tried using different charger and power source plug in charging for several hours and still won't power on.  From device, says headset is fully charged, but won't power on.

Hey there ajp78.2023! We want to ensure you have the best experience possible with your Quest 3, and therefore have a few question for you for clarification purposes.

Has this ever happened to you before?

    • Have you ever received any error messages (if so could you provide a screen shot?)?
    • Have you ever had a previous device (Quest 2, Quest, Quest Pro) that ever received this issue?
    • What troubleshooting steps, if any, have you already attempted?

We are looking forward to your response, and to working together on this!

No, this has never happened.  No error messages.  No previous devices.   Steps were holding down power button for over a minute to reboot, this didn't work. Did this several times.  Did not power on in any attempts.  Changing charge cord and plugging into different outlet.   Didn't work.  From my device it shows the Quest 3 is fully charged.  It just will not turn on.

Thank you so much for your correspondence! We appreciate you letting us know what you have already attempted.

Can you please let us know if you have also tried the following:

        • Ensured the headset is completely charged
        • Powering off the headset
        • Holding the power off and volume down (-) button at the same time until a menu appears
        • Once the menu appears, highlight the option that says "factory reset"
        • You can select this by selectin the volume up and down button
        • Once "factory reset" is highlighted please select the Power button

We hope this helps, and hope to hear back from you in the meantime!

having same problem won't power on got white light by charging port tried everything suggested still nothing

  • Hello, we went to make sure it was fully charged and the headset turned on when we pressed the power on.  Not sure why it wouldn't turn on for several days.  It then required us to enter in a password which had never happened before.  It is now working.

Thanks for your swift response. We are happy to know the Quest 3 device is now back working. Where you able to figure out the passcode that was set on the device? We can't wait to hear back from you. Have a great rest of your day!

Hello, im just facing the same issue. Did you leave the headset charging all the time and one day just started working again?

Hey ODTC! It seems like you might be having issues with your headset powering on. We would love to assist you with getting your headset to power on if you still need help. We want to make sure you are able to enjoy VR as it was intended. We can go ahead and suggest some troubleshooting steps.

If the headset is plugged and no battery icon is displayed, and no LED's come on:

        1. Attempt to charge the headset for 2 hours. The headset must be left powered off or in a sleep state during this time.
          • If trying to charge from a computer, take note of the following:
            • Computers typically provide less power than outlets and may require more time to charge.
            • If you are using an adapter, the port type being used may provide even less power than the USB-C port that is typically used for charging and Link cables.
            • Computers may also stop charging peripherals if the peripheral is completely powered off (causing the computer to not recognize the presence of the device), or if the computer itself goes into a sleep state. This is defendant on the port, motherboard, BIOS settings (not all of which may be visible in every BIOS) and USB power settings. BIOS settings vary greatly between computer models, so we cannot provide assistance with these.
            • While in use, the headset will typically consume more power than the computer port can provide, resulting in the battery charge decreasing over time. The headset must be off or in a low power (sleep) state to charge.

We hope this helps, Feel free to reach out to us if you need any other assistance.

  • I was playing a game with friends on my quest 3 and my screen went black and my headset shut off. I still had over 80% battery left and any attempt to reboot it would show me the Oculus logo then it would shut off again. After 10 minutes of trying to turn it back on it would not boot at all. When I plug it into the charger no light comes on I cannot force reset by holding the power and volume button and so far everywhere online doesn't have a definitive fix. Hopefully mine resolves itself like some of the people here.

  • Having same problem won't power on except there are no lights no anything.  I played a long session the night before, let the quest charge over night.  In the morning the Quest 3 would not boot. I've tried the following:

    1. Have tried holding power button for over one minute, will not turn on.

    2. Have tried using different charger and power source plug in charging for several hours and still won't power on.
    3. One of the devices I use will show current draw of the headset and the current draw remains at zero so there's nothing actually going to the headset

    4. The charge port doesn't no look damaged and it's never gotten hot while charging or playing.
    5. I plugged the quest into my computer and the computer does not detected it

      Hi SystemPower,

Thanks for reaching out about the issue that you've been having with your Quest headset powering on.

We at Meta Store Support want you to enjoy your time within VR, and not have to spend time on troubleshooting the headset.

So we would be happy to help you get this sorted out as quickly as possible.

Since you mentioned a long play session the night before, did any of the following happen?

      • Did the headset feel warm to the touch after use, was it running any hotter than normal?
      • Did it sustain any knocks, bangs, or spilt liquid?
      • Did you receive any error messages, or app crashes?

To start things off, can you please attempt the following steps to see if they provide and success.

      1. Remove any accessories that might cause any interference with the headset charging- battery pack, charging dock, etc.

      2. As you've mentioned that it won't respond, please check to see if the power menu can be accessed- Hold Power Button, and -Volume Button for 30 seconds or until the menu appears in the display.

      3. You've mentioned plugging the Quest into your PC, try using the Software Update Tool, to check if any updates available and hopefully jump start the Quest headset.

      4. Ensure that the center interior proximity sensor (between the lenses) isn't obscured by the facial interface, check for any marks or smudges on it.

If you are still having problems with the headset after trying the above, then please Private Message the Meta Store Support team, and we can help with more in-depth solutions.

        Hi Meta Store Support,

Thanks for the detailed response. I’ve gone through all of the suggested steps and wanted to provide a clear summary:

        • During my last session, the headset was warm from use, as expected during extended gameplay, but not abnormally hot.
        • It was a long session — I went through nearly an entire BoboVR battery, though I’ve had longer sessions in the past (e.g., burning through two batteries) without issue.
        • The headset has not been dropped, hit, or exposed to liquid.
        • I noticed a slight blurring in the boundary lines when looking down, but no crashes, errors, or other signs of malfunction during use.
        • I attempted the Power + Volume Down button hold for over 30 seconds — there was no screen response, no haptics, no LED light, and no boot menu appeared.
        • I tested with multiple chargers and outlets, charging for hours — no signs of charging activity or warmth during that time.
        • I also connected the headset to my PC via USB-C to USB-C, and the computer did not detect the device at all — no system sounds or recognition.
        • I verified that the charging port is undamaged and the center proximity sensor is clean and unobstructed.
        • Lastly, I used a USB power meter to confirm that the headset draws 0 current when plugged in, suggesting a complete lack of power at the hardware level.

      Hi Systempower.

Have you had any joy with this? Im experiencing exactly the same as you.

No power going into the headset no matter how much I try.

I messaged meta on whatsapp and was just told the quest is out of warranty with an offer to buy an refurbished headset. No offer of why its all of a sudden done this or a fix.

I feel like im banging my head against a wall

The support team contacted me and after trying all of the above steps Meta issued me a warranty replacement.
