Meta Quest 3 no longer recognizes head tracking.

Hi guys I am here as desperate because my Meta Quest 3 started to give me this problem as per the title, I will tell you the story in more detail:

I got the Meta Quest 3 new months ago and it has always worked perfectly, the other day I used it in PCVR with the cable as always and without any problems, before I turned it off I saw that out of nowhere a new item "Allow automatic power on when updating" had appeared under the item "Automatically update before power off", I didn't give it too much importance and unchecked as always and turned it off; I then put down the headset as usual which hasn't received a beating or anything these days, today I turned it back on and basically when I go into the home if I move my head above the view goes below and if I move my head below the view goes above (basically the head tracking doesn't work), the controllers are not recognized at all (but they flash and every 20 seconds they vibrate) and after a while the headset brings me back to a black screen asking me to try using hand tracking or the controllers if the problem persists (which is useless because they don't go for me). I have tried rebooting it many times, even going to the Boot Screen and clicking Boot Device, but nothing, it doesn't work.

Also now when I turn it off (which I have to do forcibly), when I go to the power off menu, there is no longer the "Allow auto power on when updating" item I mentioned earlier, I don't want to have turned off the device while it was updating, or I don't know what else, even though I had checked the notifications and there was nothing updating.

What can I do guys? I don't want to format it, it took me months to set it up just the way I liked it.

I'm asking for your help, thank you all for those who have made it this far.

Hey Hey! Thank you for reaching out to us regarding this matter. We hope you're having a great day and would love to look into this for you, as we know losing track can really hinder that. Can you please let us know if this only happens during standalone or does it also happens while using PCVR?

We would also love to provide you with some useful links that could give you additional information.

For Meta Quest headset tracking, click here.

To receive automatic app updates while your Meta Quest headset is off, click here.

  • Good afternoon, the problem occurs even in standalone eventually I had to personally contact META support (Italian) via email and tried formatting the device, to no avail.
I tried connecting the device to the Oculus app on my phone or tried resetting the controllers by holding A etc, but no way to solve it.
I went to the app but it doesn't find the viewer (viewer turned on and with the Bluetooth on the phone), it's not recognized, also as also explained in the first message of the post the viewer keeps bugging out quite bodily, when I take it off for a moment in the initial reset procedure after formatting (where I can't do anything anyway because the controllers don't work) and put it back on everything bugs out and shows me a colored wall (the background one from the initial setup procedure) stuck to my eyes.
In short, I don't know for what reason because I repeat I have always treated it with kid gloves considering its cost, it seems to have gone crazy for all intents and purposes.
I even tried resetting the controllers but nothing changed, it's like the viewer itself is dead.
I really need to ask for a replacement because I absolutely cannot use it anymore.
Right now I am waiting for a response from META Italian support.

I asked for help in a lot of forums and no one else had the same problem, I thought I was the only one!
Can you email me privately to tell me what problems VR gives you and especially what exactly you used it for before the problem occurred so maybe we can understand why it happened? So that it doesn't happen again.

I know its been a while since you've resolved this but if you'd be able to share how you solved it i'd really appreciate it. Have had this same issue for ages now and like you can't find anyone else talking about this specific issue.

        Hey there, WhyNotPotato

We can see you are having some tracking issues with you device and we would love to help you get this resolved as soon as we can.

You can have a look here, at a public article we have on how to turn off and on headset tracking.

You can also try to reset your boundary history, bear in mind this will clear the history for all accounts on the device not just the account logged in:

        • Press the Oculus/Meta logo on your right controller
        • Click on the clock on the left side of the universal menu
        • Select Settings
        • In the settings panel, select Boundary
        • Select 'Clear Boundary history'
        • Redraw your Guardian boundaries by selecting 'Adjust Boundary' from the Boundary settings menu

If the issue is persisting, we would love to investigate it further with you, so please send us a private message.

  • I'm also having this same issue.  Have updated to the latest software and done a factory reset, but it still can't do headtracking and won't communicate with the controllers.  I have two of these in a classroom scenario, and the other is still functioning just fine.  How was this issue resolved?
