Meta Quest 3 strap pin broken

Hi All,

My sons quest 3 pin that hold the head strap just snapped as he was playing. He can no longer fasten the strap as nothing to hold onto it. Is there a replacement I can order?

As he isn't able to play it anymore and is gutted.

Thanks all!

  • In case meta support can't help you, you could always look into a "halo" style strap, I use a BoBoVR M3 strap and it doesn't need to be connected to that top strap pin, it can be, but it's really not needed. This also makes the headset more comfortable. The M3 can be had with external batteries which help extend play time of the Quest 3. If you have a Quest 3S, make sure the strap can also be used on the 3S.

  • Hi, I wanted to suggest using an Epoxy (2 different elements in two bottles) so when mixed together (10$ to 15$ on amazon) is VERY strong. This might get your back into action until you resolve the issue of getting a replacement. Meta is not the speediest vendor, just so you know...

    Good Luck!

(First check with meta support might be warenty repair)

To repair a broken strap pin on a Meta Quest 3, you'll need to replace the entire strap. The strap pins are not designed to be individually replaced, as they are integrated into the strap assembly. You can purchase a replacement strap from the Meta Store or other retailers and then follow instructions for replacing the strap.
This video shows how to replace the head strap on a Meta Quest 3:

    https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ZJGTYwLID7w

    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    1. Identify the problem:
Determine if the broken piece is indeed the strap pin itself or part of the strap mechanism. If it's the pin, the whole strap needs replacement.
    2. Purchase a replacement strap:
Buy a new strap for the Meta Quest 3. You can find them on the Meta Store or other retailers.
    3. Remove the old strap:
Refer to online tutorials or the headset's manual for specific instructions on how to detach the existing strap. This usually involves releasing clips or velcro and carefully sliding the strap out.
    4. Attach the new strap:
Follow the instructions included with the new strap to properly align and secure it to the headset.
    5. Test the fit:
Once the new strap is installed, test the fit and adjust it to ensure it's comfortable and secure.
You can watch this video to learn how to remove and attach the head strap:

Here you might find parts good luck.

Meta support would not help me on this. I'm currently talking to them now. That piece just BROKE and now my VR falls off my face and my sons face all the time. I can't play. :( Worst experience and now a waste of money.

        Hi digitalprotege.2024 🙂

maybe consider buying a "halo headstrap", it's much more comfortable anyways.

Just google for it..... there a lots of them.

I don't think you understand the mechanics of the problem my friend. Your headstrap replacing video is very good....if the anchor bar isn't broken. OK, look at your headset. Mine broke too by the way. I have a temporary fix until my halo strap that doesn't need the anchor bar arrives. The anchor bar is not attached to the faceplate. It's on the headset itself. With that gone, there is no way to attach a normal headstrap. Your video shows the person installing the new strap by pushing it through the anchor bar that's broken! I had a detailed discussion with Meta about this. That anchor bar is definitely a weak point in the design as pulling back the overhead strap is putting pressure on the bar.  It will break for anyone who pulls that strap back to get a tight fit.

  • It's a fairly easy fix get an 1/8-in steel rod usually pick up from Ace hardware or any hardware store cut it t0 length I used a Dremel tool and a grinder to finalize the size and make it smooth. If you have basic tools it will cost you less than five bucks for this fix.

That's an interesting idea but it's not likely to work.  I'm a bit of a fix it yourself guy, being a design engineer. Firstly, there is no easy way to bore a straight hole as the gap is far to small between the two sides, you will end up at an angle and secondly, more importantly, the plastic used on the headset, though tough and high impact will likely splinter if you try that.  With the bar being attached to the headset itself, it's asking for trouble. An extra $15 to get a Halo strap is a better option than potentially destroying your device.
