Meta quest 3s screen resolution is low

Hi, I bought a meta QUEST 3s a few days ago (second hand). Before buying it, I watched a lot of videos. The screen quality and mixed reality was good in the videos, but after buying it, when I started using it I noticed that it is not as good as the videos, especially the application icons in the main menu are blurry. When I open a video from YouTube, even though I set the quality to 1440 or 4k, the video quality remains visibly lower than 1080p. Even objects very close to me in games or in the main menu are blurry. The mixed reality quality is not as good as in the videos. There is a lot of tingling and the quality is extremely low. Is this a hardware or software problem? Or is it just the device that makes it seem weird to me?

  • Quest 3s has a lower resolution than the Quest 3 however it's still better than you seem to be experiencing.  As it's a second hand device, if it's a hardware issue, nothing can be done. It could be that the lenses have micro scratches on them which will effect the clarity. As for YouTube, it is capped at 1080p on the Quest app both for 3s and the higher resolution 3. 1080p is all you get from YouTube on the Quest.  As there is no option in the Quest YouTube app to set the resolution higher than 1080p, it's impossible for you to even set it to 1440p. There's no option there to do that. I'm not sure that you actually have the device. If you did you'd know that 1080p is the maximum. Why are you wasting people's time ?

Maccyb123 you say "I'm not sure that you actually have the device. If you did you'd know that 1080p is the maximum. Why are you wasting people's time ?"

Lets flip that shall we. Your arrogance is unbelievable. Not sure where you are getting your info from but its well wrong. The OP is correct you can actually choose 1440p and 2160p but you would know that if you owned a head set right? Both my Quest 2 and Quest 3 have YouTube installed and BOTH allow those resolutions.

2 and 4k are available in resolution settings and As far as I know, the screen quality is a little more than 2k, so it should be able to play 2k videos.

Yes, that's true that the Quest 3s can play 2k videos and I can say they look good, but YouTube app only plays in 1080p at the moment, doesn't matter if it's a Quest 3 or 3s. I imagine if you access YT through the browser you can set it to 2k if you have the 3s, though I've never bothered trying it.

Baron_1991 the videos that you've been watching are captured directly from the headset GPU and do not reflect what the screens show though the lenses. If you look for through the lens videos, they can show a better representation of what your eye sees.

    Hi Baron_1991!

We understand that you have some concerns regarding the resolution of your new Meta Quest 3S, which appears to be lower than expected. We would be happy to clarify this for you and help you enjoy the great VR experience you deserve!

The Meta Quest 3S might have a lower resolution than the Quest 3, which can sometimes make things a little less sharp, especially when you're comparing it to the Quest 3's higher pixel density. However, the Quest 3S is still designed to offer a crisp and comfortable VR experience.

So, bearing that in mind, we would like to give you some tips that you can use to improve visual clarity.

    Adjust IPD:
Ensure the pupillary distance (IPD) is set correctly in your headset settings.

    Clean Lenses:
Regularly clean the lenses with a microfiber cloth to remove smudges or dust.

    Verify Software Settings:
Check if the apps and games you're using have optimized graphics settings for the Quest 3S

  • The Quest3s just like the Quest 2 has frenzel lenses so you have to find the sweet spot to get the best clarity otherwise you will get a blurry image. I'm not saying this is why you are getting blurr but it could be adding to it if you have not found the correct spot I am supprised no one else has mentioned this. Also are you sure you don't need glasses. Just another thhought for you.
