Meta Quest Link app continually occupying CPU time, Windows 11

So I’m sat here sweating, wondering why on earth my Windows 11 gaming PC (core i7, 16 Gb, 3060) is acting as a heater, so I look at the monitoring software & my CPU is over 90 degrees C. Look at Task Manager & Meta Link - which I’m not using now & rarely if ever do even use - is sitting around 20 % CPU at CONSTANT use :-/

Obviously, I therefore immediately uninstall that hot pile of sick digital garbage and hey presto, CPU drops down to 50 degrees C and even the GPU temp drops by over 5 degrees C, too.

Meta - what the actual hell is it with your software? WHY is it using ANY of my CPU - let alone an actually very significant portion of it - when I’m not even using it?

WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH MY CPU TIME?! You are wearing my hardware out. Your software is basically digital cancer at this point.

  • UPDATE: So having removed the digital equivalent of a particularly nasty fungal infection which is Meta’s software for Windows, I restart and none of my user accounts have working PINs now, apparently 😓

Furthermore, the reset procedure, which I am funnelled down, doesn’t work because “you need internet for this”. My internet connection is working fine, thanks.

So I restart the machine (again) and thankfully it logs in now without issue. But what in the actual hell, Meta?

  • Happened to me too, the The Meta Quest Remote Desktop process was consuming more CPU time than normal making the CPU temps go high....

Waited a few minutes, tried repairing the Oculus Software, Reinstalling but eventually gave up and had to uninstall the Oculus software from my PC

Thanks very much for adding your experience, Ramonmata 👍

Let’s guess how this is going to go - no response from Meta support, so improvement to the software and if either of us bother to raise it as a support ticket, A.I. responds with frankly annoying, boiler plate platitudes and nothing gets done.

Personally, I’m happier not having that digital garbage infecting my PC. I removed all associated apps from my headset, too. I have long-owned & occasionally use the wonderful Virtual Destop, which essentially does the same stuff and more. My main interest in Meta’s version was when it was initially a very lightweight Windows Store app with a promise that it may somehow work like Apple’s headset does with a Mac. Now I’ve no love lost for Apple, but looking back I feel stupid for ever thinking for a moment that that could be the case.
