Meta Quest Remote Desktop app doesn't respect startup settings

The Meta Quest Remote Desktop app on Windows 11 insists on launching automatically every time Windows boots even though I have the setting unchecked.

It's also annoying that the app doesn't show up under Startup apps in Task Manager so that I can disable it from there.

Submitting feedback via the app doesnt work either. It seems to want to open the old Windows Mail app before opening the new Outlook app in Windows 11 23H2, and then does nothing.

I'm having the same issue. How such a basic functionality does not work is beyond me - I have never seen a single autostart service that does not respect startup configs in my whole entire life. Mindblowing.

    1. Windows + R
    2. Type services.msc and enter
    3. Find OculusRemoteDesktopService
    4. Right click on properties and either set the startup option to manual or disabled (you will have to turn it on to launch it manually)

Hi there NathanSudo, we appreciate you submitting a bug report already! This is great news, since we definitely want this Remote Desktop issue to be looked into as soon as possible. While we don't have an exact fix for this, we do try our best to offer troubleshooting options like uninstalling and reinstalling both apps. The PC app shouldn't have an effect on the Remote Desktop app, but it never hurts to try! Please let us know if you're still having any issues; we'd love to help in any way possible.

  • MetaQuestSupport do you think there's any relationship between the Oculus PC app and the Meta Quest Remote Desktop?

I'm surprised to see that mentioned in the instructions for troubleshooting but it would be good to know if one has any impact on the other.

I know the team has been alerted to the bug report issues, we've reported this recently from the Workrooms Community because it makes sending issues much more difficult without it working.

Hopefully it will be resolved soon along with startup toggle and the login issues.

  • As of now, it still doesn't respect startup settings. It's not even listed in startup tasks, but does everytime, and takes up too much CPU when trying to shut it down. I have to use task manager every time. Not sure if this is still relevant or just me. I fixed it manually through services manager.

  • Agreed - this issue is still not solved for me, since a recent Oculus app update it now does not appear in Windows Startup apps, has no option within the Oculus app itself to toggle startup behaviour, and consumes monstrous amounts of CPU until I manually kill it...including all the processes that remain running even after the app itself has been closed. Hi Hairboy! Thanks for sharing your experience here. We totally understand how it feels when our devices behave unexpectedly, and we'd be happy to assist with providing some troubleshooting steps. To start, have you already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, or running a repair on the Oculus Desktop?

I started the uninstall process, but that is not a desirable solution because it claims it will delete applications that I have downloaded from the oculus store. That's like 200Gb+ worth of downloads,  which will literally take me days to reinstall based on Australian internet speeds.

Please provide an alternative solution to prevent the oculus app from auto startup
