My headset is stuck in a boot loop - Quest 2
- 5 years agoI have solved the issue. For everyone who stumbles over this post in the future, here is what I did:
I was looking for solutions online, and i found someone who had a very similar problem on youtube. He said his led indicator was also shining blue, not white, and lo and behold, mine was also blueish when it was on. Aparently he just left it looping for like 10 minutes and it suddenly worked again.
Anyway, here is the video: *(ok, aparently i cant post links for some reason, thanks FB, really makes it easiser to help people (like you should be doing actually). The video is titled "Oculus Quest 2 stuck on boot - Fixed (No factory reset)" on youtube if you want to take a gander.)
It wasnt quite as simple with mine tho. I turned it on and left it, and after about 20 minutes it was still looping. I did not plug it in, my reasoning being, it will either boot, or drain the battery completely eventually. So I left it on, and went to work.
After about 2 hours I came back, and noticed that while it still seemed to be looping, the timing was different, and it was making the sounds it makes when it boots normaly. So I tried turning it off with the power button (which didnt work before, i had to use the boot menu to turn it off), and it worked!
Then I turned it back on, and it SOUNDED like it booted up, the screen also turned on, but it was only showing black. It was definetly on tho, since it kept making sounds it does when you wave the controlers around, the screen was glowing (the "black glow" of an lcd that is on but showing nothing). So I turned it off and on a few times, and it was still the same.
After a few tried, I decided to just try the factory reset again, and lo and behold, it worked again! The screen came on during the factory reset, showing that its erasing everything, and then it booted up normaly. I had to go trough the initial guide and setup again, and the headset then updated itself and the controlers, and it has been working fine since then. I had to re-pair it with my oculus app on my phone, but I didnt have to log in with my facebook account, it was already connected. I reinstalled the games, and its been working just fine. I took it to work to see if it will die on me again, if I take it from its home, but it worked fine there as well. I just makde sure to turn off the guardian before hand, since aparently that can mess it up.
Anyway, the issue seems to have been solved. I hate that it was solved like this, i much prefer clear cut solutions than randomly turning stuff off and on, but here we are nonetheless. I hope this helps someone in the future.
