New drivers are required for Meta Quest Link

I've updated to the latest, non-beta for both the newly named 'Meta Horizon Link' software as well as the Quest 2 now on v83.0.

The Meta Horizon Link software doesn't seem quite finished and ready for prime time.

I have a persistent beam across the top of the app stating "New drivers are required for Meta Quest Link. Update now" - When I click "Update now", the app shuts but nothing more happens. I've waited several minutes thinking it might be doing something silently - it isn't.

I then reopen the app which is a preceded by a 'Repair' screen. Getting back into the app, I see that same "Update now" button, click it but now it fails because the required services were stopped in the previous attempt.

I restart the services and then the app, click the "Update now" button and we're back to point 1 with it closing the app and nothing happening.

I've tried completely removing the app and its registry amends using Revo Uninstaller so I can completely start with a clean slate and the issue persists after a reset and re-installation.

Is there a download url to the most recent link driver outside of the app available?
Or is this a false notification due to a naming mismatch between the link driver and the newly named Horizon Link software?

Many thanks in advance.

Click "Update now" and wait patiently until it asks you to reboot your PC. You didn't wait long enough! I can't emphasize the words "wait patiently" strongly enough 😉.

Sorry Steve, it's not that. Like I said, I've waiting several minutes thinking it's doing something silently but it isn't. I've now re-tried, this time leaving my PC alone for over 2 hours after hitting the 'update drivers' button. It's no different. The software simply closes, creates a new desktop icon for 'Meta Horizon Link' then falls over/doesn't progress to its next step.

Try running Repair on the Meta Quest Link (Oculus) app.

  • For some clarity. I'm a software engineer by trade so as you can imagine, I've been through the basics (and a bit beyond the basics) in trying to solve this one.

First..... I have no idea what's going wrong with your link app, so I'm no help at all.

But I don't believe that it is a genaral problem with the app...... many people are already on that version and the driver update worked for them without issues.

I'm still on v81 but I had the PTC v83 installed for a few days and this also worked.

Do you have another pc or laptop where you can install the link app? Just to try if it works on another device?🤔

Hello there, thanks for your post.

We understand you are having some issues with your Meta Quest link saying that new drivers are required for your app. As you have already tried repairing the app, we would now suggest trying to remove all of the app data from your computer, then reinstalling the app. Please follow the steps below to do that without issue!

      1. Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer.
      2. Disconnect your computer from the internet.
      3. Backup any necessary content.
      4. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
      5. Uninstall the Meta Quest Link app using the Control Panel.
      6. Delete all Oculus folders from the folder C:\Program Files.
      7. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
        1. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
        2. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
        3. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
        4. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
        5. C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
          • Note: The AppData folder is usually hidden. Use these steps to access AppData.
            1. Press Windows key + R to launch the Run dialog window.
            2. Type %AppData% in the Run box and click OK or press Enter.
            3. File Explorer will launch to the AppData\Roaming subfolder.
            4. Click AppData in the File Explorer address bar to show all three subfolders in the AppData location.
      8. Restart your computer in normal mode.
      9. Reconnect your computer to the internet.
      10. Install the Meta Quest Link app again using the setup tool from our website.
      11. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset

Same issue happened to me, and I did all those items as mentioned above - However, It seems like the installer originally installs "Meta Quest Link"

But the update removes that and creates another new file "Meta Horizon Link".

And the error states - "New drivers are required for Meta Quest Link. Update Now" -- which... no longer exists, cuz it was replaced by Meta Horizon Link.

For worst case - I guess I can I keep reinstalling Meta Quest Link - snooze for 4 hours and it should allow the Link to work.

Same issue for me. It’s like the third update loop I have. **bleep**, I hate these goggles

Looks like it's installing for the wrong headset (Rift S).

It's installing drivers for all headsets afaik. I could've plugged in something after an update, so there has to be a driver for that.

where it's falling over at `OculusDriverInstaller.RemoteAudio.Install()`. It appears it's trying to install the wrong .dll for the system. Commonly either a 32 vs 64 bit mismatch or a corrupt binary.

For reference to any Meta devs reading this. I'm on an `AMD 7950X3D`.

There is no solution to this other than to wait for a new release and hope the quality control takes a step up, fast!

Getting stuck at this exact point during the install, which resulted in the software actually uninstalling itself rather than reverting to the previous version (or even skipping the driver) when attempting to repair it.

Something I noticed in the logs both here and generated on my desktop is that "Installing driver" is printed just before the error and is the only line in the entire log with that output. It doesn't match the pattern from the rest of the drivers where they start with "Beginning installation of X Driver"...

Crossing my fingers in hopes the engineers prioritize a hot-fix.

  • peeps, i was able to resolve this and i'd really love to give a shout to the one who was packaging the installer, you owe me 4hrs of my life.

So, do the following, add <Path to oculus>\swap\oculus-librarian-a2be5132-89db-4c2f-9a5d-3fa20fa06df6 (the uid might be different for you, so pls, navigate to the directory and check it out) to user $PATH, you might need to log out/log in for it to apply.

    Like this:

adding oculus-drivers wasn't the thing that helped imo, the second one did

Meta Horizon Link – Installation Preparation (Workaround)

This procedure can resolve Meta Horizon Link installation failures by adding required support paths before running the installer.

      Tested Versions:
      Meta Horizon Link — Setup.exe v1.115.0.0 (2025-12-09)

      Assumed Install Location:
        - C:\Program Files\Meta Horizon\

      Procedure:
      1. Add the required support directory to the system PATH:
        - C:\Program Files\Meta Horizon\Support\oculus-librarian
      2. Run Meta Horizon Link Setup.exe.
      3. Confirm the application launches successfully after installation.

      PATH Requirements:
      Must exist:
        - C:\Program Files\Meta Horizon\Support\oculus-runtime
        - C:\Program Files\Meta Horizon\Support\oculus-librarian
Do not remove these entries after installation.

How to Add a Directory to the System PATH (Windows):
      1. Press Start
      2. Search for View advanced system settings
      3. Open Environment Variables
      4. Under System variables, select Path → Edit
      5. Click New and add:
        - C:\Program Files\Meta Horizon\Support\oculus-librarian
      6. Click OK to close all dialogs

Good afternoon. I can't install Meta Horizon. The installation finishes and then crashes with the error "An error occurred during installation. Please restart your computer." I've tried numerous times, but it's still the same.

Hi, this is what I'm seeing now also after fully removing any reference to Meta/Oculus/Quest from my computer and then also after a full reinstall of Windows in an attempt to solve the issue.

If you check your logs I expect you'll see similar to what we've found here: https://communityforums.atmeta.com/discussions/OtherTroubleshooting/new-drivers-are-required-for-meta-quest-link/1355181/replies/1356392

You should be able to find your install logs here to then confirm it's the same issue: 'C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Oculus'.
