New navigator ruins full screen movie/tv viewing :(

I hate the new UI because the window grabber ui elements don't disappear (the little oval ui element beneath full screen windows for example that show the full screen button and the dimming options). It's really annoying how it stays visible, whereas previously it would disappear after a few seconds, so you felt like you had a big cinema screen when using the browser to watch Netflix in full screen mode. Now it feels like I'm looking at a digital display because of all the distracting floating UI elements that no longer auto hide. Also the persistent white lines that float all over the place when not in full screen are very distracting.

Is there any way to revert back to the previous navigator?  Some way to do a system restore to the previous OS version?

  • It would be awesome if there was a 'auto-hide menus' option in the settings, which hides all ui elements except the actual floating windows, with the following behaviour:

Menus and white lines under windows (full screen and normal mode)

When the pointer hasn't been near the window for 3 seconds,  hide white lines/floating window options, and bring the white line back when the pointer is aimed at or near the window.  Then switch from white line to full menu when the pointer is off the window and near the white line.

Main Floating Navigator Menu (the one that has buttons for library and the time etc, and their minimised white line versions

Have them disappear after not being pointed at for a few seconds.  And only bring them back when the user clicks the meta button.  The white lines aren't necessary for these main menus, because nobody needs to know that 'this is where your hidden menu is', just bring it back in the centre of the current view when the meta button is pressed.

  • you could even have two settings options:

    'auto-hide panel options' .

    'auto-hide main navigator menu'

This would allow people to keep the main menu up if they want to, and also hide the floating panel menus, or vice versa.

Yes it does still disappear automatically 🤷‍♂️.

Maybe you kept nudging your controllers or something. I always put my controllers down on a desk and make sure they are not sitting in a way that the triggers might be accidentally getting pressed.

Maybe you just need to restart your headset or something.

As per suggesting changes to the UI, you are shouting into the void here in the community forum.

I've reported the bug from inside the headset.  If I restart the unit, the menu under full screen windows auto-hides for a brief while, then it gets stuck to permanently on again.  At least it wasn't a design choice, hopefully they'll fix it.

  • I still wish they'd get rid of all the white lines that replace the menus though.  they're an eyesore, and aren't necessary because the full menu will re-appear when the mouse gets near he window anyway.

Yeah, I hate that bottom white line 'window dock' that remains floating in space sometimes when all the windows are closed. It's weird.

You can get rid of that one by double tapping the meta button, but the ones under the floating panels can't be gotten rid of.  Super annoying if for example you place anchored screens around the room, especially if the room and content shown on the screens is dark, there's just these illuminous bright white lines all over the place that stand out like sore thumbs.
