New Quest 3 locked on software update

Hi guys, I bought my first Quest 3 recently.

When I turned it on, it started a software update but it gets stuck there — the device keeps turning on and off without completing the update, and I can’t get past that screen.

I tried doing the sideload update (the only fix I found on the internet) by holding the volume down and power buttons on the Quest 3. But when I select my device in the browser, I get a message saying: “your device is not supported, please try reconnecting your devices.” Weird cause both my PC and Chrome are detecting it as Quest 3. Also tried this on 2 different browsers, same result.

There’s nothing else I can do, literally — I’ve already tried factory reset several times as well. Do I need to return my device?

      This was going to be my next step. But I'm just confused which FW to choose? Should I just use the latest one? Because I currently don't know which FW the headset is currently at, as it is not fully turning on, unless the update is finished of course.

        mehudon​ I would start with the latest version, if this doesn't work maybe try an older version.

        If you still can't get it work,  bring it back where you bought it and get a new one or  - if they not give you a new one in exchange - refund the headset and buy a new one.

        You shouldn't have such trouble with a new device.🙁

  • Tried everything,  I am able to input the code. It just simply does not connect. After entering the code, screen comes up on the app, saying checking headset status, and then it fails.

      mehudon​  Maybe uninstall/reinstall the phone app and try again. If not already done, try if pairing works using another wifi network.

        I will try another phone now. Wondering if downloading a lower FW version would help.

  • Okay so after using the developer hub, I can login to the headset now. My profile shows up on the headset, but for some reason, the app is still not getting connected.

      I guess, if you don't set up the Quest with the app, but with the dev hup, it won't connect to the phone app.🤷‍♀️

      Bearski said in the video, the store won't work when setting up the Quest that way. I think, that's because it's not connected with the app.

        According to CoPilot, you should still be able to connect to the phone app after setting up MQDH, but "Some users report that enabling MQDH/Developer Mode can sometimes prevent the mobile app from pairing smoothly (e.g., for controller pairing or boundary setup), though this is often a temporary bug or setting issue."

      What phone and OS version are you using. Maybe it's a phone issue. There have been some problems with iOS 26.1, which has me feeling nervous because I got my daughter a Q3 for xmas and my phone just got updated to iOS 26.1 😅.

      I had the very same issue. If it's under warranty get it returned. You cannot fix it yourself. I used A.I to diagnose it and went through a whole raft of tests and checks.

        mehudon​ is very patient, he tried so much to make it work, so I just let him know about this thread.......

        ........I already had given up days ago😂
