Not being able to be heard in games and parties
So this started happening a couple weeks ago where my mic is not broken or anything but when I first join a party I can hear people for a couple seconds then it goes quiet and they cant hear me and I can’t hear them. The my audio still doesn’t work when I’m in game and even when I leave the party people still can’t hear me. But it did randomly started working normally for a couple days but after that never again. I have updated to the latest software, I’ve rebooted the headset multiple times from the boot menu, I’ve tried external mics but nothing works. The only thing I haven’t done is factory reset my headset because I don’t want to lose all my data and progress in my games and friends list.
Hey DanielsonVR !
We saw your post and wanted to lend a hand - we know how important it is to be able to collaborate with friends in the Metaverse!
Firstly, please review the app or game 3 dot menu in your Library, and check your Settings to make sure you have audio permissions turned on, and the volume levels are set correctly.
Please also check the volume level sin Quick Settings.
If you have spatial audio turned on, the sound will adjust based on the in-headset experience (for example, placing the browser panel to your left makes sound come primarily from the left speaker)
Please also check that your microphone is clean and not obstructed - we would advise that you remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may block the microphone (such as a third-party facial interface, etc.).
Also, test your audio and microphone with multiple apps or games - if it's happening only in one app or game, check the permissions for that game to make sure microphone is enabled.
If the issue persists, firstly reset the microphone by going to Settings > Audio > Toggle Microphone (mute/unmute).
As you have already tried rebooting the headset and this hasn't yet worked, we would advise you then to perform a Factory Reset as a last resort. What this will do is reset the device to a "like-new" state, wiping all information and data off the device. Some of this data can be restored by enabling Cloud Backups beforehand; however, keep in mind that while Cloud Backup is available to all Meta Quest developers, it is up to developers to decide whether to enable this feature for their app and what data is backed up. You can find which installed apps have Cloud Backups enabled on the Cloud Backups page of your Meta account profile.
Once you have set up Cloud Backups, ensure your device is fully charged, then proceed with the following steps:
- Turn off your headset.
- Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
- Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Factory Reset and press the power button.
- Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.
The device should now begin the Factory Reset process.
Once you've tried all of these steps, if the issue persists, please get in touch with us privately (just make sure you're logged in!) or via email, through this link.
We hope you have a great day and are able to chat with your friends in the Metaverse soon!
- Turn off your headset.
