Oculus Rift S Screen stays black

I've been looking everywhere on the internet, tried every solution found on reddit and whatsoever, even tried to use software to bypass meta software...

Looks like Facebook killed the Oculus Rift S.

I cannot contact support because my serial is not recognized, it's ridiculous. I was so disappointed and sad when I saw Facebook taking over Oculus, and I was right, it's become awful, and now after the last update, the Rift S worked only once and now never anymore. Sensor, remotes and everything works, except that the screen stays black. Nothing changed and now i have a nice piece of technology that does not work

This is extremely disrespectful, pushing people to buy new products by killing the old ones. It is unfair, as I paid money for a device that was working, and i really WISH that Facebook wouldn't have forced us to use their ridiculous software.

Who's going to refund me for a 5 years old device that was working perfectly, always taken care of and put back in its box at every use, looking brand new, no damage to cables or anything.

There MUST be a workaround to make it work again. Please, solve. I don't want to buy a standalone device.

My computer did not get any update so it's all on facebook. I would write so many offensive words to their engineers and managers but it's pointless, hoping to get a reply and a fix that actually works, avoiding software like OculusKiller (which did not work anyway) or other payware.

Thanks.

Hey there vdecataldo, we came across your post and wanted to offer some assistance.

We want all of our users to have the best experience possible, therefore, let's try and get this sorted for you as soon as possible.

Firstly, please check to ensure your PC is compatible. The minimum and recommended requirements can be found here.

Could we then ask you to update the graphics drivers? These can be downloaded directly from the GeForce or AMD website, depending on if your graphics card is NVIDIA or AMD.

Once you've updated the drivers, please try the headset on another computer.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or queries, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Customer Support team. They can be contacted via our website.

Hope to hear from you soon!

  • That's the issue: updates.

thank you for the generic answer, but as I said, I did try a good amount of things.

My computer is compatible? Yes, as i already wrote, I've been using the Oculus Rift S without any issue for the last 5 years.

Updates? Yes, i did them, and that's the issue. the Meta software forced updates blocked me from using the device. there's no other reason for it to stop working. Drivers were updated yesterday, Meta software was reinstalled yesterday after cleaning all the folders in my system.

The Oculus default app was working fine and Meta forced us to use their software, how sad to be honest. A thing that works should not be touched, or updated. Basic rule of information technology that nobody respects.

My last resource is going to test the device on another computer, but it's not as easy as you think to find a computer that can support the Rift S (Display Port or compatible USB-C + adapter ,USB-3, and a person willing to let me use a gaming computer).

I see over the internet that I am not the only one with this issue, so there should be a fix somewhere.

I'll come back once I'll find some good soul that can make me test the device on their expensive computer, since you know, i don't have 2 gaming devices, why would I.

  • The oculus works tested on another computer.

Apparently, disabling nVidia Surround fixed the issue.

    steps:

    • disable surround
    • verify that oculus rift works (it does)
    • re-enable surround
    • verify that oculus rift still works (it does)

I never had this kind of issue. Is there any conflict in the latest firmware of oculus rift S and/or meta link software that could possibly make things go south with nVidia Surround enabled?

Is there a potential fix? re-enabling surround is not an issue, more a nuisance.

    Best

  • Hello,

i'm trying the oculus today and i am having the same issue.

Again, today a new update has been forced. every time that there's an update of the Meta App, my Oculus stop working

can you please, please PLEASE STOP forcing updates and let me enjoy my Oculus?

Allow people to CHOOSE if they want to update.

it works, i don't need an update. Leave it as it is!
