OVRServer_x64 Memory Leak/Not clearing working set

Will be sending this directly to support as well.

Here's the issue:

This service is currently taking 4gb of memory. Without anything attached. The Oculus program is not running. Firefox has a youtube video playing. I checked via other apps; this is working memory, not non-paged or standby memory. So ovrserver_x64 is using 4gb of memory without any use or reason to.

But that's not all. In the hour or so while I was investigating this,

It took another 800mb or so of memory. In processhacker it's actually taking about 5.1gb total private memory (ie; reserved memory, and most of it is working memory)

This is absurd. I can imagine this could be the cause of many people's issues if they have less capable memory or a lot less of it. If I only had 8gb, I'd be well over my limit and into the pagefile, ie I would probably bsod or the program would crash. I think this would be fine (jk, this is still ridiculous for a simpler server app that isn't even running) if I had Link going or something. But, like, really?

I've created a .dmp of the memory but it's obviously 5gb in size so I'll have to look at it privately I guess. If anyone else can notice this issue especially when NO SOFTWARE is active, that would be interesting to hear.

  • The memory leak issue has been plaguing me for several weeks now and it's comforting to know that others have been running into the same problem and it was not just my own sanity going down the drain

    This has been the single most stupid fix I've ever seen for this

    My fix, DISABLE ALL ASW (asynchronous spacewarp)

    Causes a 100MB/sec memory leak and here's the required steps

    C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics

    Disable ASW (PC) in OculusDebugTool from the above text

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\resources\settings

    Go to default.vrsettings Make sure it is set to false like this

    "motionSmoothing": false,

    Using the beta version of SteamVR and I have no idea why this works but yes

    If you have any more questions add me, discord is Kapyaki

    • Disable ASW

      "motionSmoothing": false

                  --> no difference.    still having same problem.

        when I tried with usb 3.0 data cable, It does not happen. working fine without memory leak.

        so, It only happens with airlink.

  • Tried that too but still got the same result, RAM reached 100% after an hour of vr

      I checked again with more detailed lands scapes. and memory leak happens even with wired.

      yes, It's same regardless wired or not.

      by the way, today there was a oclus link program update. updating is ocurring more frequently these days. (test was done after update. so nothing changed about memory leak.)

        I got update today. now version is 76.1025

        and I tested and It does not maxed out.

        ram usage was as normal as before.

        looks like it's fixed.    nice work!

  • Problem keeps happening i even bought an additional 16gb of RAM and it still gets filled within an hour causing my pc to write into the system pagefile which eventually fills and starts crashing programs i am begging someone to fix this it makes vr unusable. This all started happening after i was forced to update the oculus link app to i think 74.0.0.675.347.

      there was a radeon video card driver update today.  (2025.5.1 version)

      after that,   no more memory leaks. about 6hours passed after update. still no memory leaks!!!

      by the way, I disabled oculus app auto update. (I am not sure, It's related)
