Quest 2 factory reset not working

I've gotten a Quest 2 from a friend that no longer wanted it and had deleted their facebook account.

The device was still associated with their meta/facebook and after some reading, I learned about factory reset.

I've factory reset the device multiple times (4 or 5) and paired it with the meta app on my phone, but the device is never associated with my account. It always ends up at a login screen with the previous user's user name pre-filled out and I can't change it. And when I go into the meta website, under devices, even though it's paired with my account in the app supposedly, it's not listed there.

Previous owner has deleted facebook and can no longer get into meta to delete the device from their account.

What do I do to get a clear of this device and get it associated with MY account?

Any assistance appreciated.

  • Hi SleepyStrange 🙂

Just to confirm..... you have the Horizon app on your phone, you are logged in in that app with YOUR account and then you start the pairing process form the app.

At what point here are you asked to loggin with previous users profile?

To me it sounds as if the Quest isn't set to factory settings at all. Maybe you did something wrong?

A full factory reset will normally clear all previous account information. The only exception to that rule I've ever seen is where a device has been reported as stolen and only the original owner can unlock it. Not saying it was you but it is just one explanation. If you know the previous owners personally you should contact them. They should be able to log into their Meta account regardless of having FB and remove the device. However, if the factory reset isn't clearing it there are other reasons. Are you sure you factory reset and didn't just do a soft reset?

  • I figured it out shortly after posting. The problem was actually pairing the controllers. One of them was being a right pain and wouldn't pair and so I could only get so far.

But after some troubleshooting and replacing the battery I finally got it paired and things progressed forward and I can see the factory reset did indeed wipe the account.
