Quest 2 Stuck on passthrough on wake-up

I just used my Quest 2 and for some reason it's stuck in passthrough when I turn it on. The controllers won't connect and are at full battery (as is the headset), and the only thing I could do was adjust the volume, where it displayed the volume slider graphic, but turned the entire screen black, which then returned to passthrough when the slider went away.

So far I've shut it down and restarted it a number of times, all with the same results.

I had used my Quest 2 a couple of days ago and it was working fine, I hadn't done anything too taxing on it graphics-wise, so I'm not sure this how this came about. Does anyone have a fix for this?

  • Update: I've tried rebooting it and now it's stuck on a black screen with no option to interact with anything

There have been a couple of suggestions that this can happen if an account gets disabled because of neglecting to verify their age by the deadline when requested by Meta.

There have been other suggestions that this can happen if too much sweat gets into the headset from using exercise apps or games like Beat Saber.

It could also be due to hardware failure of the proximity sensor in your headset, so it can no longer detect your face. If you use your phone app, try casting your screen and see if it works. If it does, that's a good indicator that the sensor has failed.

Search YouTube and search these forums, it's a very common problem.

The sensors seem okay, since it still automatically wakes up when I put it on. I'd be really surprised if they bricked the headset just because I didn't add my face to their spyware network

Update 2: I tried restarting it again and passthrough is back, we're back to square 1.
