That's not good, I hope you get it resolved. Maybe when it goes to grey screen, leave it like that for a couple of hours and see if something happens ?? You didn't mention factory reset. Did you try that ?
i did try leaving the quest like that for a couple hours (almost a day even) but it didn't seem to help :(
also, yes, i've tried factory resetting it multiple times, but nothing seems to bring it back to life, guess i'll have to keep sideloading the new updates until one of them fixes it

There's no such thing as a "Repair" function on the Meta Update Tool, could you be more specific?
I've tried reaching out to the support but it was of no help
