I believe I fixed it for me. TLDR: do something to keep the battery from moving up/down from the 3 inner connectors.
----
Today, my controllers got to a terrible state where they were disconnecting all the time while playing a fighting game (quick hand movements).
As suggested on some other answers, I tried adding some folded paper between the cover and Meta's rechargeable battery, didn't work. But that got me wondering about those 3 inner plugs, and I started fiddling with it and noticed both + and - connectors on the controller are spring loaded. That means the battery will move more towards the weaker spring. And it will keep moving as the springs' plasticity change their strength. While sliding the battery up and down to check, lo and behold! The controller would turn on, vibrate, then turn off.
In my case, it needed to move a bit towards the face of the controller, so I added some tiny, crumpled paper balls to the side of the bottom connectors and voila! No more disconnecting! I believe, as the top spring settles down with time, I'll need to readjust, perhaps even remove the paper balls. But for their current balance, this keeps the battery in place.

Maybe the 3 pins are not essential to keep it on, but perhaps it causes an issue if the battery moves vertically enough for them to touch the wrong connectors on the controller and cause a weak short circuit, or some unexpected miscommunication that crashes the controller firmware.

I'm having this issue as well.
I'm starting to think it has to do with the pogo pins on the battery or the dish shape of the positive end of the battery compartment. Disconnection happens only during rapid movements it seems so power may be temporarily disconnecting.
It's been suggested that the pogo pins deliver power from the official rechargeable batteries and not the end terminals so the problem may be that they're getting shifted off the contact points under rapid or jerky movements, so the solution might be to pack the ends of the batteries, once installed, with something to prevent movement.

I went through hell with this problem. I contacted Meta support and at first we thought it was the right controller. They replaced it under warranty and shortly after replacement the problem started again on the new right controller. The common denominator was the Meta Charging Dock batteries. They replaced the batteries for me and shortly after that the left controller started randomly disconnecting. I then put the old left controller battery back in left controller and all was fine for a few weeks. Then the right controller started the disconnecting again. I think it was SpiraTech that suggested putting folded paper shims underneath the controller covers. Just enough thickness to make the cover go on tight. That seems to have done the trick. Since I installed the folded paper shims the controllers have not disconnected. I hope this helps.

That's my experience so far. After all my investigation, I have some shims at the top of the battery to keep it from shifting and a shim between the battery and door cover and it hasn't given me trouble yet other than the first connect after putting the measures in place. I popped the cover open, gave the battery a little nudge and buttoned it up, all is working fine now.

I have exactly the same problem. Meta replaced the batteries under warranty and the replacements are worse than the battery packs that came with the Meta Docking Station. When I use conventional AA batteries everything works fine. Huge waste of money buying the Meta brand. I have friends with after market docking stations that have no issues at all.

Try a tiny bit of paper folded a few times and place between battery cover and battery. I've only used it a few times yet but it seems to have helped.
Placing a washer between the battery contacts seemed to make no real difference. The real issue is between the three little pogo springs under the battery - there just is too much play and these can get lose in fast movement / slight hits such as tapping controllers together.
There's no denying that it's poor manufacturing / testing by Meta, which is a shame as everything else about it is great.

Ah, you've jogged my memory. Someone posted a few months ago about Meta rechargeable battery packs needing a bit of foam or paper taped to the inside of the battery cover to keep the batteries pushed into place. The washer or aluminium foil solution I suggested is for regular rechargeable batteries, not the Meta ones.

I've not had any issues using rechargable Duracell 2500mAh HR6 Ni-MH AA batteries with the Quest 3 touch controllers. You could try putting a bit of aluminium foil between the battery and +ve contact in case the battery is not making good electrical contact.

Yeah, I've tried a small steel washer on the positive contact but the issue still happens, which makes me feel that it's internal to these Meta batteries or something else. It might be the small pogo spring contacts under the battery.

Any resolution on this? I just bought the compact dock with batteries and same issue, only worse… can barely even get them to power on at all..
if i take off the cover and reseat it works sometimes but then quickly disconnects again… never had this issue with regular batteries…

I'm having the same issue. I purchased the compact charging dock, which comes with their rechargeable batteries, and I've had nothing but issues with them. It will stop working during a gaming session, and I have to open the cover, pull it down from the connector, so that it powers the controller back up.
The batteries are charged correctly as they report 100% power when playing.

When the Meta supplied batteries are fully charged they cause the random disconnect problem. After 15 or 20 minutes of play when the batteries have drawn down a bit they seem to stop disconnecting. At least in my experience.

No. There is a spring-loaded contact in the controller +ve side that can get jammed and the battery becomes a bit loose. Use a bit of aluminium foil like I suggested earlier.

Hi there SpiraTech, thank you for bringing this to our attention, we can see that you are having trouble with your controller disconnecting and we're happy to help! Firstly, we just want to say that we agree with Choleni's suggestion. Secondly, If after trying a different brand of batteries, your controller is still disconnecting, please let us know and we'll be happy to take a closer look for you

As SuperSugrat mentioned the Meta docks come with rechargeable lithium batteries, the issue is with them.
As I mentioned all other standard AA batteries work perfectly and have done for over a year.
- SuperSugratHonored Guest
If you are using the compact dock, it uses your batteries, which are not interchangeable with other rechargeable batteries due to the special connection.
Hi SpiraTech 🙂
try another brand of rechargeable batteries.
The batteris have different heights, depending on the brand.
I use "Eneloop" and have no issues with disconnecting.
