Quest 3 Pink Line

Hello! I’ve been having an issue with the Quest 3 where after a while I see a pink line/bar that fills up half of each lens near the bottom. I’ve looked for a few fixes but can’t seem to find the right fix. I use it through SteamVR and some threads have said it’s VRAM issues but I’m using a 4090 and still getting it. Hoping someone else have had a similar issue and found a fix.

  • It sounds like a very longstanding issue (it only affects wired connections) that meta ignored for years until someone on Reddit found a possible fix.

Hey @MilesFromTomorrowland! We hope you're having a great day today! Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We know it's no fun to not be able to use our devices to their full capacity so we would love to help getting this issue resolved for you. In order to do so, please verify the follow steps have been made.

    1. How the headset is connected, making sure that the headset and primary monitor are connected to the same video card.
      • Is an adapter or cable extender being used? If possible, remove any adapters from the headset. If the PC does not have enough of the needed ports  and an adapter is needed, it is recommended to use the adapter with the monitor instead of the headset whenever possible.
      • If you don't have the needed port on the video card at all, for example: the AMD R9 295X2(No HDMI port), and adapter will be needed. For Rift: A compatible adapter can be purchased from Amazon. The Rift S will come with a display port to mini display port adapter.

    2. Disconnect the headset cable from the PC and from the headset and inspect it for bent pins, frays, twists, kinks.
      • Note: When reconnecting to the PC, you should connect the USB cable first, then the display port cable to the dedicated graphics card.

    3. Update graphics drivers

However, if you're still having trouble after trying those steps, please don't hesitate to reach back out and let us know. We'll also be here if you have any other questions or concerns. Hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!

to anyone reading this in 2025:

chances are you are an Nvidia user, so let me, a fellow Nvidia user tell you how to fix this:

basically, the main fix is using H.265. H.264 has been deprecated by Nvidia post Turing cards, and favors H.265, aka HEVC. I have a 2070 Super, and switching to HEVC/H.265 did not only improve latency but removed that pink line on the bottom of the screen. youre welcome.

How to I switch? Looking online doesn’t seem to be anything related to vr use just for streaming

just use the Oculus Debug Tool to change it, or switch to ALVR. I find ALVR to be more intuitive than Meta's link app, also providing more settings and less latency. The only caviar with ALVR is that it requires SteamVR and enabling Developer Mode, but that's not hard to set up at all, and there are plenty of tutorials online.
