Quest 3 tracking system death?

my friend has had this quest 3 for a while, since launch, but recently it has decided to stop tracking. it full on is acting like its in a dark room but doesnt say it. it wont track the headset or controllers, factory resetting it didn't help and they did it many times but still, nothing. my last resort to try and help is to go here before fix my oculus, because its out of warranty, and pray its not an expensive repair

Hello there, thank you for posting on our forum.

We understand the tracking on your friends headset is not working as you expect it to and has been giving you some issues, even after trying to factory reset the headset. First of all, we would recommend following the steps outlined below to try and assist with your issue.

    • Ensure that your area is well lit, with enough light to clearly see, but not direct sunlight.
    • Ensure that your area is free of small lights such as Christmas lights or LED strips.
    • Ensure that your area is free of any reflective surfaces such as mirrors, glass or polished marble.
    • Ensure that the tracking cameras on your headset are clean following our recommended maintenance and care guidelines.
    • Ensure that your environment is free of any obstructions between the tracking cameras and the controllers.
    • If your controllers have removable batteries, try removing the batteries from your controllers for at least 30 seconds before reinstalling.
    • Power off and restart your headset.
    • Unpair and re-pair your controllers to the headset.

We hope these steps have helped and the tracking on your friends headset works again. If you are still having issues however, please follow the steps outlined below to contact us privately via DM.

This probably is too obvious, but no one has mentioned it so far. Check your headset settings and make sure Headset tracking and Hand and Body tracking aren't toggled off under Settings->Movement Tracking.

You could also try toggling off Hand and Body tracking, and Headset tracking. Power off/on the headset, then enable both settings again. Then power off/on headset once more.

  • I just bought my quest 3, and this brand new headset keeps losing all tracking, turn screen to all dark with a warning . I have to push power buttom and sometimes shake my headset to make it function again. It's really a disaster.

I'd get a refund from the retailer then buy a new headset. Don't accept a warranty replacement from Meta, as they will swap your new headset for a refurbished one. Insist on a refund.
