Quest 3 update 25 April 2025 causing Quest 3 and MSFS to crash

Since a software update today (25 April 2025) on my Quest 3, I have been having problems - the Quest 3 has distorted VR image, and frequently freezes and crashes. When using the Quest 3, MSFS also crashes unexpectedly. MSFS performs normally when not using the Quest 3.
My Quest 3 has been performing well until immediately after the update, so I have to suspect the update has caused the problem.

Has anyone else experienced this?

    Mine takes forever to even load the quest link software,  I need to do a repair, or terminate all the quest aps running with ctrl alt del,  to get it to run.   MSFS then will run,  I get about 20 minutes of flight, and then my headset freezes, when I look back I see all sorts of little colored diamond/squares it's just frozen...  but the sim is still running, if I close VR in the game with ALT-TAB,  I'm still flying in 2d on my screen.    Not sure what is wrong, never did this before when I first got this a couple months ago.    I reached out the tech support at META, they gave me an RMA to return the unti via FEDEX.   Not sure if it's the headset or just the link sofware update that is messed up.  I have been trying to resolve it, but I have till end of this month to send the unit back...  Should I send it back, or do I risk getting a factory second, returned headset back sent to me, that is worse with real problems?

    I got the non-PTC v76 update on my Q3/rtx4090 earlier today (v76.1023) and all's working fine standalone and PCVR with Link and wireless with Air Link.  Tested a few standalone and PCVR apps today, including msfs2020 and everything ran very well.  Also, my Q3 headset and Q3 Elite battery strap seem to be charging up fine (both to 100%/green)  I can't say I notice any significant performance differences, but I'm always happy when updates don't brick anything, lol!

    I also got a non-beta update v76 on my meta-link pc app today (v76.0.0.452.315).  The PC app update sometimes lags a little behind so maybe check to see what version your on (scroll down to the bottom of the settings/general tab).  If it's still on v74 and hasn't updated to v76 yet you may want to try forcing it to do so by going to the setting/beta tab and select the top option to get the beta version.  I've needed to do this in the past and after about a week I disabled the beta option and it quickly updated to the same v76 version.  I've found in the past that things work better if both your headset and PC app are on the same update version.

    After updates, I've also found that it helps to do a restart or two.  If you're still having problems I suggest you contact meta support including your log files (google how to this) and see if they can help.  Good luck mate and cheers.

    add F1 to that list, its defintely the update, i was on both F1 and MSFS yesterday all day got an update today and didnt even get 5 minuets on either, screen go black like it isnt even turned on while both games still respond on the monitor

      What are your pc specs and gpu drivers, and what method are you using for PCVR (Link, Air Link, VD, SteamLink)?  Also, if you're using Link or Air Link what is your meta-link pc app version? 

      I've tested (~1hr runtimes) my Q3/i913900k/rtx4090 with both Link and Air Link with msfs2020 and Asseto Corsa and both are working great with the non-PTC update I got yesterday = v76.1023.

      If you get cutouts like this with Link it could be because you haven't disabled usb power saving option, your cable is damaged, or your connectors are loose and/or faulty.

      If you can't sort this out yourself I suggest you contact meta support including your log files (google how to di this).

        No offence but my specs are irrelevant, the firmware is broken, i dont need to check my pc, cable, drivers  or anything else, THEY need to fix their broken firmware.

    I used my quest fine yesterday, connected via cable link.

    The quest link software was updated after this (twice apparently) and today it takes an age to open/load on windows and doesnt detect the quest 3. so no iracing for me 😞

      Maybe try downloading the meta link pc app from the meta support website and run a Repair.  Also, maybe try going through the Link setup again.  Sorry, all I can think of mate.

        Thanks mate. Downloading and repairing the link software and then unplugging the cable both ends and reconnecting picked it up.

        The 2nd or 3rd time anyway.... I'm not sure I did anything different as far as steps with unplugging and connecting / turning on quest

    Hello, yes, I have exactly the same problem.
    I've spent over 6 hours researching the issue; I've done everything!
    Installed and repaired the Quest Link PC program.
    Updated ALL my drivers!
    Disabled my processor's graphics card because I thought Quest Link didn't know which GPU to use.
    I tried all the USB-C ports on my tower.
    Last night, no luck. I managed to get a green USB test in Quest Link, and I was then able to do several laps of the circuit in VR.
    I rebooted the PC afterward, and it became impossible to connect via Link again.
    IT'S CLEARLY V76 THAT'S CAUSING THE PROBLEM WITH LINK WITH THE CABLE.
    I had no problems with V72.

      Badstar25  Sounds like you’ve tried just about everything mate.  So probably best to contact meta support and include your log files (google how to do this).  Good luck mate and cheers.

    same thing on Thursday their update slammed me and my Oculus Rift, and the update came in while I was using VR! at night !! bad timing !, two days of hell. they wrecked my whole night! it took until late Friday for the update to go through! so mad, never gain, when this breaks I am done with meta!

      The way to avoid this happening is to go to your meta-link pc app settings/general tab and disable automatic updates and enable the option not to do updates while in VR.  I've always done this and never got bumped out of VR with any of my oculus/meta headsets, including my good old rift cv1.

      im sill having problems with pcvr on my quest 2 from this update , what will be done about that?

    same probleme all wass working good before  the quest 3 have ask me for update  afther the update always freeze bug  wee want a update for fix it !!  specs pc i9 14900kf 32gb ddr5  2080ti strix

This dual functionality can complicate the management of USB-C connections, drivers, and communication protocols. • If the software (Horizon OS or the Oculus PC app) is not fully optimized to handle this mode, it can lead to instabilities, such as connection failures, slowdowns, or crashes.

    Hardware and software compatibility: • DisplayPort Alternate Mode requires that the PC, USB-C cable, and headset all support this standard. If a single component (e.g., a non-DisplayPort-compatible USB-C port or a misconfigured GPU driver) is not working properly, it can disrupt Quest Link operation, even for users not actively using this mode. • Nvidia 5000 series GPUs, mentioned in some reports on X, appear to be particularly affected by compatibility issues with v76, which could be exacerbated by the new mode.

      i was forced another update today, while using it kept crashing! they have no respect for us at all at Meta!

    With the latest nvidia 576.28 driver, for msfs2020 you need to enable dx12 in the PC graphics menu, then restart.  This actually works better now than the default dx11 imho.
