Quest 3 update 25 April 2025 causing Quest 3 and MSFS to crash

Since a software update today (25 April 2025) on my Quest 3, I have been having problems - the Quest 3 has distorted VR image, and frequently freezes and crashes. When using the Quest 3, MSFS also crashes unexpectedly. MSFS performs normally when not using the Quest 3.
My Quest 3 has been performing well until immediately after the update, so I have to suspect the update has caused the problem.

Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Mine takes forever to even load the quest link software,  I need to do a repair, or terminate all the quest aps running with ctrl alt del,  to get it to run.   MSFS then will run,  I get about 20 minutes of flight, and then my headset freezes, when I look back I see all sorts of little colored diamond/squares it's just frozen...  but the sim is still running, if I close VR in the game with ALT-TAB,  I'm still flying in 2d on my screen.    Not sure what is wrong, never did this before when I first got this a couple months ago.    I reached out the tech support at META, they gave me an RMA to return the unti via FEDEX.   Not sure if it's the headset or just the link sofware update that is messed up.  I have been trying to resolve it, but I have till end of this month to send the unit back...  Should I send it back, or do I risk getting a factory second, returned headset back sent to me, that is worse with real problems?

  • It’s definitely a driver issue. I’m experiencing the same thing. My specs are

    4090oc

    9800x3d

    64Gb DDR5 @ 6000m/t

    5 tb Samsung 990 pro. (1tb c drive, 2tb D drive, 2tb E drive.)

    ASUS TUFF X870 plus wife

    1200 watt platinum plus PSU

There are other forums filled with people complaining about this issue out of curiosity do Do you have an AMD CPU or GPU? because one post said it was a conflict with AMD drivers and the New Meta link driver.  Every time it crashes send a report to Meta until they fix it. if you go into your C drive folder or wherever your Meta software is downloaded go to oculus, and then go to oculus set up and open it at the bottom It will give you the option to fix the software, click on that it will uninstall and reinstall the software without affecting any of your downloads and it will temporarily fix the the issue . This is not a permanent fix sometimes it last  30 minutes sometimes it last an hour.

VonZ777  As a user on this user forum it’s impossible for me to suggest what’s best in your case.  All I can tell you is that link and air link are working fine with non-PTC v76.1026 with both my +1.5yo Q3/512gb and +2.5yo QPro.  I have a fairly high end pc; i913900k/rtx4090/64Gb 6400ram.  MSFS 2020 and 2024 are working great.  I mainly fly them using an official link cable connected to my z790mb usb3.2 gen2 type c port at 900mbps max dynamic bitrate.

If you have actually tried all troubleshooting options including sending your log files to meta support and still can’t fix your issues I guess your only alternative is to try a replacement headset.  I have got refurbished units in the past and they have been good as new.  Normally only Reddit kiddies complain about these imho.

In any case, good luck mate and cheers.

I had the same problem with the Quest Link app either taking a long time to load, or not load at all. The solution that worked for me was firstly to delete the app. Then also delete any Oculus folders or files remaining on your PC (this is important).
Then reboot your PC. Temporarily disable your antivirus software and download a fresh copy of the Meta Link install from the official Meta website. Install this by right-clicking and run as administrator. Finally reboot your PC (that should also re-enable your antivirus).

I found the app and my Quest 3 ran well after that.

I also got a refurbished Quest 3 from Meta - it is as good as a new one and runs well.

  • I also recently opened the meta horizon app in march 2025 and it does not open. It constantly crashes. I have never had this problem. Really frustrating
