Quest 3 v78.1028 not applying / Battery still draining while off

Battery keeps draining when it's off only when plugged in. Like it literally "drains the battery" to plug it in. Only way to charge it is to hold down power button for 30 seconds, then plug it in while it's on. And it'll charge... while it's on. As soon as I turn it off... battery just bleeds like water. Been this way for weeks now. Praying the v.78.1028 fixes this. Suuuper frustrating!! Though the v78.1028 update won't stick / keeps saying "software update needed" no matter how many times I do it. All the while the battery just dies if I plug it in... this is... crazy. Meta pleeeasse do better! Like this is WILD dude!! :(

      each time I click the link you provided, it simply takes me to the list of posts on the thread... there is no "send a message" option... it's putting me in continuous circle back to this point..?

  • Having exact same issue. Battery drains while charging on off mode. Latest update fails to install.

      I just found a work around in case it helps you or any: Unplug the power cord - Hold down power button for 30 seconds. Let it power on / off / on again during your 30 second hold. Then let go. Once it powers on, plug her in. It should now start charging while she's on. Do not turn her off from here on out, only tap the power button ONCE so she goes to sleep vs powers off. It'll continue to charge while either ON or in Sleep mode (directly after) the 30 second power hold button. I know, it's a weird workaround. Simply proves it's a software issue for us all vs our batteries dying. Praying they fix it soon, but do the above so you can at least use her until they do.

    I'm not having any battery issue on my new Quest 3, but I do have the issue with v78.1028 appearing to install but not actually being installed after the reboot. Make sure you are actually shutting down the Quest 3 and turn off ALL the auto update settings, otherwise it might be that your Quest has been switching itself on to auto-update and got stuck in a loop because of the broken software update. There was only one time in the past 5 weeks where my Quest did not charge overnight even though the charger was plugged in, and it was on the same night as an automatic update. I won't be turning the auto-update settings back on until v78.1029 or later comes out, as the current software update appears to be borked.

  • Same problem on all my Quest 3 headsets. Version v78.1028 won't install.

  • V78 1028 won’t install and I assume it’s why my roomscale  boundaries suddenly don’t  carry over into Thrill of the Fight! Grrrrr!!!!!!

      Hey there, we realise that issues with downloading the update are causing some further issues, and we'd really like to see what we can do to help.

       

      If the issue is being caused while downloading the update through the headset as normal, please try using the online Software Update Tool available here to see if the update can be applied this way.

       

      However, if the issue persists, please let get in touch with us over Private Message and we can see what options we have available to help!

      Hi SleepnGuard​ 🙂 

      This also happened to other users … even before v78.1028 was ready for the update
      Somehow for some users the boundary switch to stationary boundary after opening a game....even though it's set to room scale 
      You can try this:
       - open the game
      - press the Meta button on your controller
      - in quick settings switch the boundary back to roomscale
      This worked for other users.
