Quest 3 version 64 - no 120 hz mode

Hej.

when i updated to version 64.

under system settings and under display. I can no longer enable or see the 120 hz option any more.

can somone help me 🙂

  • Hey guys, so I have an update from the team. So while you'll no longer see this toggle option on Quest 3, 120Hz may be supported.
Here's how it will work on the Quest 3:
If a game is programmed to support 120Hz refresh rate, it can run at that frame rate when requested.
Some games allow users to manually select the refresh rate and if built within the game's user interface, 120Hz could be an option available to choose from.
On Quest 3, regardless of the games installed, the option to toggle on/off 120Hz will not be visible on Quest 3 setting panels. For Quest 2, the settings are still there.

I hope this clears up any concerns over the 120Hz mode y'all are wondering about.

Thanks for the clarity. Sounds like the team needs to provide better patch notes describing feature changes.

Is this some kind of joke ? the unit is a stuttering mess at 72hz.to a point immersion is out the window even with a 13900k and an nvidia 4090.80 and 90hz are not much better. and now 120fps isnt being catered for.Honestly, this device and the experience with it gets worse every time i put it on my head.Ive spent good money on this, its clunky for one,it doesnt work as described and u are pulling features that it was marketed with.unbelieveable to be quite honest.complete waste on money.i feel ripped off tbh.

Hi PiEz, being able to have your headset run with a 120Hz refresh rate is truly an amazing feat that Meta has rolled out to the headsets. Now, I do understand you are wanting that toggle again, and I can assure you it's not going anywhere. Apps and games are still able to use this mode over the 90Hz mode, as the new default mode is now the 120Hz refresh rate.

I hope this clears up any misunderstanding!

      Thanks for clarifying.

This is a terrible and unnecessary change. Apps that do not have an option for 120Hz natively will NOT be able to take advantage of the higher refresh rate now, as they will not request the headset to display at that refresh rate.

Take Resident Evil 4 VR as an example, it does not support 120Hz natively, but the Quest 3 was still able to forcefully display it at 120Hz when the option was enabled on Display settings.

PLEASE bring back the option to forcefully use 120Hz always.

You are absolutely right.Asgards wrath the first one plays terribly now accross quest link.it stutters not from ill performance but from poor frame rates,it was playing good before under the 120 setting.I am literally on the verge of selling this headset, its nothing but stress.like i said in my previous comment on this thread.it seems every time i put the head set on the experience using it gets worse. Its never ever plain sailing and fun.And now the devs are pulling the only redeeming features the device has,its just madness.

  • For those of us with concerns about battery life and always had 120hz turned OFF, what do we do now?

I actually preferred to run at 90hz.

  • I 120% agree (no pun intended)... I only noticed this toggle vanished after a factory reset to solve frequent reboots... Which coincidentally started occuring after this latest update.

The Meta Quest 3 has horrid battery life, forcing 90hz was a default setting many relied on for better/tolerable battery life.

  • Great. This is also the reason why I cannot run Virtual Desktop on 120 hz anymore. It won't communicate with the headset anymore for that reason (v64+ OS) and the option is literally darken (unavailable).

Those decisions Meta makes ... my god. Revert these changes please. No one wants the nonsensical "auto hz adjuster" for whatever reason. People set those things by themselves and most of the casual users won't even bother with the standard settings at all! And yes, I know how regular users act, I am employeed in 2nd level support backend (previously 1st level for more than 5 years), they don't even know about these settings on any device and what to do with them.

I have found that Quest Games Optimizer will allow you to set the refresh rate manually for Virtual Desktop and any other app to force 120hz. Working as of 12-28-24. Hope this helps

  • Hi,

Last night my PC had a popup telling me I had to do an update and install some new drivers, which I did.  Now when I go into PCVR mode via the link cable, the performance overlay is reporting 90hz not 120hz.

I've gone into the settings on the PC app and 120hz is selected.

How do I get 120hz back please?

    Thanks.

Jus to let you know I fixed this last night.  Had to factory reset the headset, but after that PCVR is now running at 120hz.

I just received my Quest 3 and have found Meta has removed the ability for the user to choose how a game runs.  Take Batman Arkham, out of the box it looks very poor.  There are very few ingame settings to adjust the visual quality.

It was suggested that I fine tune the headset settings using the debug tool found on my PC.  I do not have these files on my PC.  There is a debug setting with the developer's options within the meta os, but these do not allow to fine tune head set speed or resolution.

The only way i was able to improve Batman's settings was to buy a third party app: Quest Game Optimizer and run this on top of the meta OS.  It overrides Meta's new restrictions on settings.  As others have said, the limits Meta has placed on "our" headsets does not make sense.
