OK, here are the options. Don't bother with the headset or controller serial numbers. Only the final two should hopefully help you find the serial number. Good luck!
Finding the Meta Quest Serial Number Without the Box
If you've thrown away the box for your Meta Quest headset, there are still several ways to locate the serial number.
Check the Headset
- Inside the Headset Strap: The serial number is printed on a label inside the left side strap of the headset. To find it, gently hold the left arm of the headset and tilt it upward to view the label.
Inspect the Controllers
- Controller Serial Numbers: Each controller has its own serial number. To find it, remove the battery cover of the controller. The serial number label is located just below the battery compartment.
Use the Meta Horizon App
- Mobile App Access: Open the Meta Horizon app on your smartphone. Tap your avatar icon, select the “Menu” icon, go to “Devices,” and choose your headset. The serial number will be displayed in the headset information.
Online Account Access
- Meta Website: Log into your account on the official Meta website. Navigate to the “My Devices” section and select your Meta Quest headset to view its serial number.
By using these methods, you can retrieve your Meta Quest serial number even without the original packaging.
I got the serial number from the app (and verified it on the meta website) but when I enter it, it says: This item is no longer eligible for a return, refund or replacement. However, it shows the warranty expiration date as 12/26/26 which means it should still be active. I tried to connect to support via chat but it says no devices found on my account so I cannot connect with a human.

You should see your devices and serial numbers on one of these pages here and here. One will show the box s/n, while the other will show the headset s/n. If the device is missing on one of the pages, it is probably because it is a new device or maybe because you didn't buy it directly from the Meta Store.
If I were you, I would return the headset for a replacement or refund at the store where you purchased it. Try to avoid Meta's RMA process if you can, it is painful.
