Quest Link Constantly Causing Issues

The app just never works on the first try. It will think the quest 3 is connected, even when not even plugged in and restarting the software. I am always forced to restart my pc and headset to get it to work. On top of this you have to do a full reinstall if you end all the running tasks of the app which is just outragous. I also can't get the debug tool to open.

Does anyone know of ways to just get it to work without having to deal with all of the issues?

  • If experiencing persistent Quest Link issues, the best current advice is to try a full factory reset of the headset, ensure all PC drivers and the Link app are updated, try the delayed start setting for Oculus Runtime service, and deny storage permission on connection.

  • I've had my Quest 3 for about 4 months and Airlink and QuestLink (using the official cable) have been working perfectly fine for PCVR. That makes me think the issue could be a hardware fault or software issue on your end. You've provided zero diagnostic information. Asking for a way to "just get it to work without having to deal with all of the issues" is unrealistic 🤷‍♂️.

    Hi again Sidedisch,

Have you been able to get back into PCVR?

If not please don't hesitate to get back in touch!

  • I have always been able to get back into the link. The issue is I always have to restart my PC or some other thing happens during play the link will disconnect, usually if I just barely take my headset off. Some of the other less common issues I have had is where the left and right eye are no longer synced and I get a weird screen tearing. This has happened both on wired and wireless link. I know it isn't my PC specs as I am running a i7 13700k, 64gb of ddr5 ram, and a 4070 ti. I love how simple the quest 3 is to use most of the time but for someone who primarly uses PCVR and constantly having issues like this no matter if it is wired or wireless has even caused me to look in alternative headsets like the valve index. It's just a real shame how much issues a lot of people have with the link software.

Make sure you have Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling disabled in Windows.

QuestLink and AirLink are not necessarily the most optimal solution for playing some games. For example, I need to use SteamLink for playing Half Life Alyx, but with Meta Quest Link set as the default OpenXR runtime.

It matters which OpenXR runtime you use. Some games run better with the Meta Quest Link OpenXR runtime, but some run much better with the Steam OpenXR runtime. I always test all the possible combinations of QuestLink/Airlink, SteamLink, VirtualDesktop and each of the different runtimes to see which works best (or not).

I also have to set different render resolutions on a per-game basis.

There is no simple one-click magic solution that works universally for all PCVR games, it is quite a technical/experimental learning curve.
