I just updated my Nvidia driver to the most recent version (537.58), and now Quest link just isn't working at all. Tried uplugging and replugging the link cable, nope. Tried restarting the headset, nope. Anyone else having this problem?
Hey everyone! The engineering and product team has reached back out to me and provided an update.
It looks like they won't be able to get the necessary information through here on the forums, but they did want to look into everyone's logs to get a closer look. I highly suggest testing out PTC and if that doesn't work, reaching out through a support ticket so they can gather the logs and provide some more in-depth assistance.
Yes. I am having the same issue. The link works on my quest 2. So I know the cable and connection can and does work. Quest 3 never says anything but “pc disconnected”
I have developer mode enabled. I don’t have the beta version cause it works for my quest 2. I don’t want to mess it up for both
Hey everyone, thank you for reaching out about this issue with your Quest 3 and PC VR. While we do expect to see some bugs during launch week, we'd like to see if everyone has tried the same troubleshooting steps.
Can we all confirm that we've tried the following steps?
Make sure the graphics card drivers are fully updated.
Make sure the PC app is fully up-to-date.
Make sure the Quest 3 headset doesn't have an update available.
We'd also appreciate it if you could all send a bug report. Feedback is important to us, and we appreciate everyone's time and patience.
I pre-ordered the Meta 3. I have a latest-generation MSI, an Nvidia 3060 graphics card, and 32 GB of RAM. However, to confirm, it’s not working for me either. My friend’s Meta 2 works perfectly (we also use Steam VR). Best regards,
I have updated the nvidia 3080 graphics card, updated the PC through settings (windows 11), flashed the motherboard bios to most recent available, checked quest 3 headset, updated USB drivers, and did the developer hint for the previous link issue.
I have a quest 2 and it works right away when I plug it in. When I plug in the quest 3, it says USB not recognized, malfunction error. Is my quest 3 a lemon?
Thank you for getting back with us, therealcberns. Would you mind testing to see if the air link works for your Quest 3? If so, would you mind letting us know what brand of cable you are using for Link as well? Is it our official cable or a third-party brand? Thank you in advance for your time testing this! If you're still having trouble, send us a private message so we can get into more detail.
In order to PM us, all you need to do is select our name to get to our profile page, or click here. Next, click "Send a Message" to privately message us! Please remember that you must be signed in to the community first to send us a private message. We look forward to hearing from you.
It works with airlink. The Quest 3 just will not connect to the PC with a cable. It is a meta usb c cable. The cable works fine with the Quest 2. Even right this second. It will just never connect to the PC when plugged into the Quest 3. Says the device is not recognized. Like something is wrong with the Quest 3
Quest 3 arrived yesterday. Spent about an hour trying to get it to connect via cable, exhibiting behaviour below with it endlessly looking for PC. It eventually did connect via the cable and I had a brief go at a few games, I don't know that I did anything different to the other times I tried to get it to connect.
I went to try again this morning and it won't connect again. Tried for 2 hours no joy.
In the Quest 3 interface it's searching for PCs forever, on the PC it's on this screen forever

Airlink I assumed was working as that connects right away, it says the PC meets the specs and there are all green ticks when you do the diagnostic check. But clicking launch I get 3 dots forever or a black screen. But the main thing I want to work is the link cable.
Hello there jools.245034, we noticed you are having issues connecting your headset to your PC. We understand that PCVR can be very finicky, and we would love to do all that we can to help you out on this matter and get you back into VR gaming!
So we see you have done quite a bit of troubleshooting. We do have a few more tips for you to test out before moving on to other options.
First up is a manual uninstall of the PC app:
Disconnect the Link cable from the computer
Disconnect your computer from the internet
Backup any necessary content
You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
Reboot into Safe Mode
You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
Uninstall the Oculus PC app using the Control Panel
You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:
C:\Program Files
Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
Note: The AppData folder is usually hidden. Use these steps to access AppData.
Press Windows key + R to launch the Run dialog window.
Type %AppData% in the Run box and click OK or press Enter
File Explorer will launch to the AppData\Roaming subfolder.
Click AppData in the File Explorer address bar to show all three subfolders in the AppData location.
Restart your computer in normal mode
Reconnect your computer to the internet
Install the Oculus PC app again using the setup tool from our website here
Reconnect the Link cable and re-test the headset
You can also try to enable the PTC on the PC app to see if that does the trick.
Manually update your GPU to the latest version from their website.
Make sure your integrated card is disabled and the dedicated graphics card is set as the primary.
Update your PC and needed drivers.
Using another high quality cable with excellent data transfer (we also have them here).
If you are still experiencing issue, please let us know.
I've had the same issue. Tbh im out of ideas. I spent 20$ on virtual desktop and it was just way to laggy. I tried airlink which people said it worked for them. But even with my wifi 400 mbps cant even run a solid 70 mbps on the quest 3. The link cable would work and then it didn't. It was only sometimes I would actually be able to play on this headset. Sadly im having more frustration than fun with this headset. Everything I tried works perfectly with the quest 2.
Hey again therealcberns, We just wanted to reach out and see if you were still having issues getting Quest 3 connected to PC with the cable. Additionally could you confirm if you have the official link cable?
I have the same issue. Have offical link cable, everything updated, Rtx 4090, AMD 7800x3d.. found the headset initially a few days ago, now will not recognise PC via cable link. Have reset headset completely, don’t know what else to do!
So I was able to get my computer to recognize the Quest 3 but it wasn’t ideal and I wasn’t able to test if it worked because I didn’t have a quality usb cable. Instead of using the USB C port on my computer I used a USB A port on my motherboard and it worked. But the only USB A cable I had was 3 feet long and a super cheap one. But it was recognized. I updated everything, motherboard, drivers, graphics card, oculus app. So something is happening to make the quest 3 not recognizable on my Asus prime motherboard with the official link cable. I don’t know if that means a new driver is needed. And I don’t know where that driver should come from
UPDATE: I was having the same issue as Chuckmymofo from the day the Quest 3 was released.
I updated motherboard bios, drivers for everything. you name it. Did every troubleshooting option meta requested through chat.
One thing I DID NOT do was this update from ASUS BIOS Bios / Firmware page because it said it was from 2021/11/24, USB PD controller FW update. Either way, I saw a post for the quest 2, years ago, to try this and it could update the USB C firmware for your motherboard. I downloaded the file, extracted the RAR file and did the update. The Quest 3 was detected by the PC.
So my advice, check your motherboard website if you USB C will not recognize the USB at all and update the firmware for USB / PD, even if it shows it as being an old date. Restart your computer. Try again. It worked for me
This worked for me also. Nothing I did with the link cable would work with the Quest 3, even though I have never had issues with the Quest 2, using the same cable.
One thing I would note, is that on the Quest 2, I was only getting 1.1Gbps on the cable (I am using a 15m link cable setup). Now I am getting 2.2Gbps on the Quest 3. I will try the Quest 2 again at some point and see if the BIOS firmware update has increased the speed on that.
Oh, and this is using USB-A at the PC end. My motherboard is a Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4. I was running F5a and updated to F24.
I don’t know if you checked your motherboards site but give that a try.
My PC was from 2021 and I have a 3080. My quest 2 worked perfectly with C-C link. Never had an issue with it not recognizing the USB. Only didn’t recognize the Quest 3. I even got 2 quest 3’s cause I wasn’t sure if it was the device and both had the issue until I found that update for my motherboard (an update I know I did before and the website said 2021). It’s worth a try.
Hello, I've checked through the Nvidia program, and there are no available updates.
I have the latest version.
Opening GeForce Experience informs me that virtual reality is "READY" to be used. I've tried using both a USB C-C connection and a WiFi connection. Normally, I see on various websites that Oculus Rift should open, but nothing starts. I can't find anything in the applications or elsewhere. It's very frustrating...
I was not referring to Nvidia. I was referring to your motherboard (Asus, MSI, gigabyte, asrock, etc) type in your exact model on google or their website and re-download the firmware for USB connection. That’s what worked for me
My Quest 3 is being recognised in the software on my PC and shows as "connected", but when I try to start Quest Link on the headset, it says that it is unable to start Quest Link and to check for updates. Well, my headset, nvidia drivers and Oculus PC software are all latest versions. Air Link is working fine, but not good enough for the game I want to play. I really need the Link Cable fixed (official cable, Quest 3 512Mb, nvidia 4090, Win 11)
